Thank you for the post , I have taken what you have said on board. Which is why I had asked for this explanation, if I had done wrong by anybody and caused offence at the 2013 Nationals I sincerely apologize . That was not my intention. I do take my racing seriously and I aim to do the best I can. I do like to win as do many of my fellow competitors. My interpretation of this event was that it was a Race Meet. Had you have just been upfront with me weeks ago , it would have have been a lot kinder. I do not set out to cause a problem , I guess my intensity and passion is misconstrued to those I may meet. I will not persist to attend the Cobra Nationals. tyou

Very gracious Mongrel. Thanks.
Waz is spot on, the Nationals and Shelbyfest is all about getting together to have some fun. They aren't serious races. People just like to get out and have a run on the track and stretch the cars legs. If you win a trophy that's a bonus. There's lots of different classes and events to even out the cars and give everybody a decent chance at winning something.
It sounds like you've put the ego aside so now join in with the rest of us in this great hobby and community. As I mentioned earlier I'm sure you have some valuable input.
Cheers

Getting back to having some fun.
Below are a couple of videos. Not fast but one or two have some "exciting" moments in them.
I think Michael Tabe (SC540) thought I was coming through his front windscreen at one stage.

I really wish you would attend Mongrel, but maybe think of it as a weekend away with like minded people.
Nothing wrong with wanting to win, but just be humble enough to accept that everyone can have a bad day and not perform as well as expected or hoped.

That's exactly what it is Boxhead.
While there were a fair few cars in race class due to their tyres, there were only about 5 dedicated full-on race cars. 5 out of 65. This is not a race meet.

The sprints and AP lap are up on Natsoft, but no sign of the other events yet (apart from the raffle!)

Just a slight diversion......Does anyone have or know of Cobra Nationals results and placings from 2001 and 2002. My Cob has two National Badges on firewall from those years. I have searched online but can't find any info from that time.
Couldn't make it to the Nationals this year but hope to make it next year. The photos look great and the atmosphere there must be even better!

I now have the results but they are currently in XPS format and not compatible with the web site. Trying to covert to PDF so we can upload.
I will let you know when they are up.
Thanks,
Kim

Geoff Taunton from Queensland.....despite a last minute change to exhaust system ( different muffler to keep the noise down), robbing about 70 h.p., he still managed some very tidy 1m01sec laps.....not too shabby I'd say.

Stirring video. I nearly fell off my chair when Geoff opened it up to commence his first timed lap.
The performance of this car brought back memories of Gary Walther's sublime yellow racer. What a shame it's languishing away and not being exercised regularly. How did Gary's times compare to Geoff's at Wakefield Park? Did he get under the minute?

Following on from the last post -- and I'm just thinking aloud here -- but if Brett isn't doing much with the yellow car, would he perhaps be amenable to some sort of lease arrangement for next year's Nats? If he's not planning on running himself? There are plenty of examples within the club of shared drives and while this approach would be slightly different for us, it happens all the time around the world in historic racing.
This might be thought by some to be pie in the sky stuff, and next year's Nats are a long way away but the car is too much a piece of Qld Cobra Club folk lore to be left idle for such a long time. I'm thinking a Club garage day or two or three to get it back in condition and then a "sponsorship" drive among members, subsidized to some extent if necessary from Club funds to meet entry and running costs, and then nominate a driver to do the honours. There are three or four guys in the racer ranks who could be relied upon to treat the car with the respect it deserves and not engage in any balls-out silliness who could be either voted in by members or else nominated by Brett himself.
I know there would be all sorts of ramifications in the event of something unfortunate happening -- which is why it would be vital to select the right driver -- but even if this car were driven at 80% by someone like, for instance Chunky Sneaky Ash Scotty Wayne and dare I say it Wazza, it would be a sight to see next year.
Maybe I'm dreaming and maybe Brett will be on here in a flash telling me what I can do with my crazy idea, but really is it so crazy? A fabulous car, a proven driver, a "club" entry so that we're all involved financially and emotionally to some extent -- it just could work. We just need to ask the question... and should we not get the answer we want, then we naturally accept Brett's decision with absolute good grace.
