Default Factory Five Build

Hello to all,
Finally after dreaming for the last 20 years its all come true "I HAVE MY PROJECT" I have been reading all of your posts for the last couple of years and really enjoy the information and friendly sledging that goes on between most of you.

Just a couple of details of my kit it's a Factory Five and I have already purchased a 5.4L 290 Boss motor from a BF GTP I'm using a FG six speed manual.
I have already started the build and have been on it for about 3 days so that's it for now and I will upload some pics very soon.

Cheers

Welcome aboard mate. Glad to see another build thread starting! So in the last 3 days have you made any progress or have you been standing around it with mates drinking beers and just looking at it? I'm inclined to do the latter...

Hahaha yeah 750 I've been pretty busy I've built the body buck and completed the front suspension and brakes with disc fitted also the rear suspension and diff is now finished fuel tank is in and started spraying a few panels too. I've put the pedal box together but have not fitted it yet as I'm now thinking about using a brake booster so I have to do a little research to see what will fit.

Great progress! I'm not sure if you're thinking about a brake booster for compliance or comfort reasons. If it's just for the pedal feel/pressure, the last 4 Cobras I've driven had separate m/cyls and no booster. They all felt totally fine with only moderate pedal pressure required.

Thanks Craig I wasn't sure about that as I haven't had the chance to drive one yet I suppose I could always add one at a later date if I felt the car didn't respond as we'll as it should.

Welcome aboard Psycho. Those FFR kits look pretty nice.

I treated myself to some pre-spend last year (haven't started my build proper yet), and bought three books from Amazon with my work Christmas voucher.

One of them was "How to build Cobra Kit Cars" by D. Brian Smith.

As it turns out, I was a bit disappointed (full review pending), mainly because it really seemed to be all about the writer's FFR build, and how great FFR are (I hope he got a decent kick back from them!). I mean, it is an interesting read, but...

However, if I was building an FFR it would be an excellent addition to my workshop book shelf. Here is the cover...

Consider going hydroboost for brakes, with power steering. Remember, you will have to lower your gas tank later on to install the rear quick jacks (or bumper) once the body is on, unless you do some mods now.

Interesting thought Dale I've not really looked at that before and the fuel tank I've hung it loose for the final assembly.

Cheers

Hi Barry, about 2 weeks away from first start; have some final wiring and sheet-metal work to do for start and security systems. Then, debugging and body on. Re-upholstered the seats to a camel color like yours; will use a darker tan carpet. Will post here when done.

Cheers to the family, Dale

Welcome

But I don't believe you till you post picks
Haha - My sinister way of forcing you to post pics so I can get my cobra fix.

You may wish to PM "Jethrow" he's seemingly working on an FFR and is WA also (yeah I know, its a small state).

Here is his thread for your interest.
Tim's Factory Five Mk4 Build Thread

I hope he doesn't mind me linking it, but I figured the two of you may be able to share ideas and experiences with your FFRs .

Best of luck with your build!

Expecting delivery of chassis in July. (Not an FFR though.) Then the fun begins.
