I am in the final stages of removing an L98 from a VE. I have all the wiring removed (and labelled, photos) so I would be keen to try to rework the loom myself.
Tenrocca, I would appreciate whatever you have to help me rework the loom.

had a couple of hours to kill so thought here we go time to pull the ve engine and box out and get it on the floor .
I have to admit how easily it come out took about 3 hrs by myself just taking my time marking and tagging things as I went ..it feels like even tho I haven't got my car yet the project has well and truly begun .
next job is to pull the diff centre out and some of he inside loom and the rest of the car will be ready to find a new home somewhere .

ps if anyone else is pulling a engine out of a ve the whole front unbolts by the time the front bumper and rad support panel and the radiators gone there is just a big hole to pull the engine thru I wish more cars were built like that .

Looks pretty clean too, Dean. I am worried about mine when I get it - given all the mirror panels in the engine bay the engine has to look pretty spiffy!

yeah I was surprised as how clean the under side of the car is even the diff is as clean as the trans . the car looked like it never has seen a dirt road . the car had only done 80.000ks and one owner . and it has plenty of grunt as I took it for a spin around the block when I first got it.
it went pretty good in a heavy commodore so it should fly in a cobra I reckon .

Probably a silly question but the gearbox sump and bell housing look to be at the same height or lower then the engine sump, your replacing the engine sump with a low profile one aren't you just wondered why if the gear box etc is already lower?

that's prob a valid point damage maybe the 6 speed autos hang lower than the manual or other autos I don't know but I will ask around and see what reply I get I may have o fabricate a folded allot section as a cover to protect it all maybe .

Yep, the auto sumps do hang lower than the manual gearbox. Gav has some experience with this. I seem to remember him saying the auto sump slid over the ripple strips at winton.

If you are going to stick with the auto you may want to look at fabricating a shallower winged pan. It's just steel so should be easy enough to do.

I doubt there will be any room to modify the auto sump, as generally the valve body and filter sit pretty snug against the base of the sump.

My auto's pan is the same height as the standard sump on my car.
I have bit it on the ripple strips once at Winton but it didn't damage it.

Cobras may seem low but they actually have quite reasonable ride heights, I would get it in your car and see what you think. If you are going to run side pipes they will be lower than your engine or trans anyway.

So re: your new low-profile sump Dean - if you decide not to bother installing it I would be interested in taking it off your hands as I AM running the manual gearbox.

I will keep you in mind guye I will talk with craig once he gets back from the nationals about it . but at the moment the moment the current sump and auto trans pan as pointed out are at the same level so I may be better off leaving it as is will get back to you on it :-)

just went out and took a pic it shows the sump and trans pan both sitting flat on the concrete .

just bought this idler set up too replace the power steering pump
LS1 LS2 Power Steering Block OFF Pulley Holden HK HT HG HQ HJ HX HZ WB LC LJ LH | eBay looks like it will do the job .
in the mean time ive been selling stuff off the ve Calais the rear seats have gone some dash pieces . some of the boot carpet . tail light wiring harness the door trims have gone ive made about $1200 bucks back of it and there is still a lot of stuff that's sellable then there is the shell it self .ive almost got the diff centre out of it as well im deciding weather to paint it or leave it as it is ..
my sump is in the country but it seems it take Australia post a lot longer to get it from melb to Adelaide than it takes to get from the usa to aust any day soon I keep telling myself it will be here ..

that's about it from me I haven't heard from absolute pace so I guess no news is good news :-)

well the sump arrived today after been opened by customs for a look lol just waiting on confirmation as if its suitable for me to use otherwise guye gets first dibs on it if he wants it

hi all
just a small update . after speaking with craig I will be keeping the shallow sump as they do the mounts different for the auto to raise the gearbox a bit . but the main reason for using the shallow one is it has a lot better baffling in it compared to a rear hump ve style .

on other news ive ordered some nice red coil pack covers and carbon fibre " look a like" cover to go over the inlet manifold so that should make the top of the engine look good .im still deciding if im going to paint the engine or not any recommendations on best paint to use im sure there must be something better than spray cans ?.
my idler bearing set up arrived today to replace the power steering pump and im tossing up to get it polished or get it anodized in red still thinking on that one .
ive been my front and rear subframes have been done and the rest of the car goes on the jig this week .

postie rocked up with a few bits and pieces my rocker covers and carbon fibre look a like inlet manifold cover . and also went town to the local chroming place and picked up my power steering replacement pulley in its nice shade of red .
hopefully get the engine down to my mates workshop and swap the sump over and paint the engine ready to drop in for when the chassis arrives .
