pulley set ups

Hi Dean,

I'm planning to install an L98 when I get my act together and buy a kit. I am still undecided whether to keep the power steering in place. The air con runs its own belt so not a problem.

You can get one made to size but I'd also be interested if there is an off-the-shelf belt which by passes air con and power steering.

What do people think about keeping power steering? Is it necessary?

I am itching to get up to visit Craig at AP.......hopefully in a few weeks.

Deano, on Windsor you will want to run a standard rotation water pump. Then I would recommend a billet v belt pulley set. You would have seen them on all the windsor installs in our shop. You can do your own solution or we sell them as an option. Just make sure you get alternator clearance to chassis.

In my opinion Power Steering is not necessary on a PACE 427. Even if you want your wife to drive it. We went to a lot of work in this area. We have a nice fast responsive steering, that is light and has a stellar turning circle. We do offer electric power steering as an option, but that is mainly recommended for people with a disability.

im running the L98 with the 6 speed auto I hope ya not fitting Windsor engine and gearbox box mounts to my chassis :-(

Sorry mate, I just had windsor on my mind for some reason. Yeah, have you down for L98, all good.

We just run factory pulley setup for GM engines. You can just bolt on a later VF idler pulley & bracket where the power steering pump goes and get the correct belt size. VF Commodore are electric power steer, so no pump.

But if you want to get more creative, swap over to a standard rotation water pump.

im not using power steering after talking with craig I don't feel the need for it and it I was I would use electric power steering like we use on our race cars . hence the problem of finding the right pulley and belts to do away with power steering and air con set up
