how many cobras run foot well vents

hi guys just wondering how many of you are fitted with foot well vents & where are most fitted as I have no room above the foot boxes & only place to fit is under the brake booster so it will blow air at my feet but at the bottom of them not from the top down
any help

I doubt it matters whether high or low. You still get the air flowing through and taking with it the heat radiating into your foot boxes.

That'll be fine Rob, as long as the ducting won't be getting heat radiating up from your side pipes.
Unless you're wearing double pluggers, you won't notice which direction the air's coming in. If heat is an issue, the main thing is to just get the air circulating down around your feet.

Really important to pay a lot of attention to insulating the footwell.....
dynamat,plus heat shield inside and out, plus a layer of underlay and carpet etc....and the temp on the footwell will never be a problem.

I've got all of the above,plus mirror stainless sheeting in the engine bay, that is spaced away from the firewall,with a good air gap...and my footwell gets neither hot or cold.

I recon it really pays off when you spend time on these sort of things....I've driven plenty of really nice looking Cobras,that just about melt your shoes..and are horrible to be in after about 15 minutes.

I just drove mine to the Nats and back,and could not feel the slightest heat...most of the time in bare feet.

Really worth the extra mucking about to get it right.

I have got 2 layers cross laid on all floor & walls of each foot well plus heatmat as under lay then carpet so its not going to be to hot but I was thinking of heat in just general driving , do I need vents in the foot wells [ as we have BIG foot wells & even just sitting not running they seem to get uncomfortable
OR AM I A BIG SOOK !!

Try using black foam heat mat from Actroll Inns air conditioning. You can get most thicknesses. I have used it in a van to stop the heat from the back of the engine bay, as I had some cold storage in the back. I measure about 180 c on the engine side and only 30 c on the other.

I have heard some folks run exhaust fans in their foot wells to draw the hot air out, rather than attempting to blow cool air in. The challenge with blowing air in is the need to get fresh air from the front of the vehicle to the foot well without heating it along the way, while I think the theory behind exhaust fans is whatever air is pulled out will be replaced by fresh air pulled in through the cockpit. Certainly on my West Coast I can see how to route the exhaust air through the open channels under the doors and behind the rocker panels & side pipes, exiting into the rear wheel wells.

Thoughts?

If you have good insulation, I don't think you need foot vents. The insulation is a huge factor.

We provide driver and passenger footwell vents as a standard on PACE 427. We force feed the air from the radiator opening as per the original cars. We get plenty of air even at slow speed using this method.

From memory you are running yours off the brake ducts. We have never had much success doing that and use the brake ducts for what they are intended, force fresh air onto the brakes.

It won't matter where you position the air blowing into the footwell, it is all about circulating the air through the entire cockpit. Keep your hose bends to a minimum, use as large a hose diameter as possible, 2" at a minimum, preferably 3". And insulate the hose against the heat e.g. rising heat from exhaust etc. Also make sure you have some way to control the air flow, especially useful to be able to cut off airflow during winter.

While I agree with Craig that force-fed air through a large diameter hose is the ideal way to go, I have 2" diameter pipes running from the brake air inlets, with the inlets fully covered by a funnel so that all air is directed into the pipes.

Originally the footwells became very hot in the summer. The pipes duct sufficient air so that the footwells are neither cold in winter nor hot in summer. It's a nice neutral feel down there now, with the piped air gently displacing any built-up hot air, rather than providing a forced blast. The system could be more effective with larger pipes I suppose but for an inexpensive solution to having scorched feet during Queensland's summer months, I'm happy with what I have.

A small heater box behind the dash with a vent into either footwell, does the job for me. Ski gloves come in handy during winter too.

well guys I have got mine off the brake duct ,, it has 2 openings top to foot wells bottom to brake s
craig.. yes thanks but I don't have a pace ,, so I have to run from the brake duct that has twin out lets
twin turbo.. I have 2 layers of insulation
don.. yep my ducting supplied by earl cobra is 71mm internal so this should flow & I got blower fans with the kit
so im thinking to put them as close to the front ducts to help force the air in
or am I on the wrong way & should be in the middle or at the foot boxes

Well you did ask who else had them fitted.

If running from the brake ducts, you will need to use that supplied fan and also some way to block them off in winter.

For anyone else looking at doing this, really try to duct the air from in front of the radiator, it will force feed the air and blast it into the cabin.

just a quick up date
I fitted all vents as per my first posts with fans not connected & well nice cool tootes
wazza I like the thongs as well
I found that the 2 layers & heat insulation & carpet doesn't let any extra heat in but just normally heat so I opened the vent control & cool as a cucumber so now !!
big question is a fan control fitted to anyone'S car that's drivable SO IS THIS A WASTE or do I just run an on/off switch only
