Yeah I hummed and harred over that last night.... But 3 things stopped me thinking about it further
1. The $3k I save by not going can go towards my rebuild
2. Driving the Daytona at 7/10 doesn't really do it for
me. One day it might be my dedicated race car and I'd think different but not atm
And
3. My cobra is insured for track use so if it gets bent on track im covered but I don't have that arrangement with the Daytona.

But I realllly thought about it!!!!

Well every cloud can have a silver lining I guess! I'm pulling the engine out over the Bathurst weekend and was telling Richard, the owner of HGT Precision gearboxes I wont make the Cobra Nats sadly and he sent me back an email to tell me....

"Hi Matt, extensive real time testing has shown the new gearboxes have a their weakest part fail at 732ftlbs - we have done the analysis and sorted the issues. So we are sending you a new one that has this issue rectified. We will cover all costs - it needs to be right."

I was the 2nd in Oz to commit to the GB and cant say anything BUT WOW. Talk about standing behind your product. With the engine coming out it wont be a real issue for me and I just cant believe how good these guys are. I know for most this GB is of no use to them in street applications but gee its nice to sing a suppliers praise!

We all often get stuck in the rut about how our expectations aren't me when it comes to service and supply but I cannot fault these guys.

So 2017, will be brand new engine and brand new GB. Hmm perhaps I wont go and solve the worlds problems after all!

Awesome service. I'm liking those boxes as well. I'm planning a Corvette build for late next year and a HGT box is on the list.

What sort of car/s are they testing them in, or is this testing on a transmission dyno?

Engine out. Time for a rethink!

Hmmm, I think the cam follower and cam lobes have decided to have a party!

New HT with 6 point cage to be made.

Lots to do!

Engine report.
2 x collapsed cam follower rollers. Cam lobes damaged but caught it all early. Will be binning cam pistons valves rockers crank etc and starting with block and heads only. Some scoring of one bore. Otherwise all is in good nick. Now to work out a good race combo that works without too much stress. Rpm will drop from 9 to 7 tops and comp 11 to 1 ish. More updates to follow.

You don't really mean binning, do you? What's wrong with the crank?

While still functioning it looks to have had more hits in its life than Elvis. I'll consider its future once I decide on combo.

Yep sadly so. That 2000rpm will be the difference I think between 500km between builds and 3000ks I hope!

Im enjoying what I'm learning about engines. This car has taught me a lot about things I never thought I'd need to know. Its all part of the "making it reliable" phase.

Maybe so but I'm trying to stay on my own topic. Besides what on earth are you doing reading the edit section. You bored? Slow day? Surely there's a Healey or Cobra you could polish or something!

Ps. Suncoast Cobra's coming to the breaky in dec looks like only a few takers. U wanna do the via Coro run? (Don't make me edit this!)
