Default TR6060 to LS3

Ready to install my eng/gb. My crate ls3 came with the clutch installed and the tr6060 has the bell housing and htob installed already. The distance from the edge of the bell housing to the front of the htob is 82mm, but if I push back on the htob it goes back another 28mm under a spring tension. The distance from the back of the block to the clutch fingers is 108mm, so if I mate the trans to engine as it is, the htob will be pushed back 26mm under spring pressure and still have 2mm before it hits the front of the gb. So is it normal to have the htob touching the clutch fingers under spring pressure?

Additional question, do you still need to centre the bell housing with modern setups?

Yes the throw out bearing is in constant contact with the fingers.

Sounds alright, the series 1 VE TR6060 does not fit the dual mass clutch set up in the current LS3 engines from Holden without changing the slave cylinder and some minor mods to the pilot bush (ask me how I know ) . Looks like you have the series 2 VE TR6060. Difference is the input shaft has the spline machined off the first 30mm or so like yours but the series 1 VE TR6060 has the spline the full length of the input shaft. You do not need to clock the bell housing to the input shaft

From the block to the clutch fingers is 108 --yeah ?
from the bell face to TOB is 82 + 28 = 110 -yeah?
that leaves 2 -- not enough
**The TOB should have about 17 crush when assembled**
ie the 108 will increase to ~112 as the clutch wears
The 82 should be 90
or the 108 should be 100

I have the same set up.. pre load (or crush) is critical to get right. From memory the preload range was 17-21 mm. If you are having ongoing issues contact Mal Wood Automotive.. they have a custom slave cylinder and a range of shims available.

I've machined a bunch of T56 gearbox front plates to increase throwout free space. I machined up a special collett to locate the front plate on the input shaft bearing.

Slave cylinder part # for the the VE series 2 - VF is GM 92251476 This suits the TR6060 with the dual mass clutch setup as in the posts above.
VE series 1 slave cylinder part # is GM 92227219 this is approx. 40mm longer than the series 2 setup and is for the single plate non dual mass setup LS7 clutch etc. There is very little info around on these differences, might help someone else with there TR6060 dilemas. I used the factory clutch pedal and master cylinder. Note the spline is the full length on input shaft in this pic of a series 1 TR6060.
