Question DB Hardtop - Expressions of Interest

As many of you probably know, I took delivery of a DB Replicas hardtop earlier this year. Full details can be found in this thread.

A number of people expressed interest in getting a copy of the hardtop and I'm finally ready to get the process moving. This hardtop will fit a Dax bodied or Dax-derived Cobra shape with minimal rework. Most other kits require varying degrees of modification, and in some cases such as the Harrison you may need to extend the roof. Please be under no illusions about this! See the link above for dimensions and other info.

The original hardtop is available for viewing on a Dax bodied car in Noble Park (Melbourne) along with all the hardware such as hinges, rear screen, latches, fixtures, gas struts, body/door seals, window channels, etc, which I can bulk order from DB Replicas to share the freight costs around.

To preserve the high quality finish of the DB hardtop, I'm outsourcing all of the fibreglass work (including mould) to an experienced professional. This guy's composite work is second to none, so if you like the one on display you won't be disappointed by the copy.

With the right amount of interest I could have the mould by end of year and the first copies in late January.

Alffie, we can only make a mould from the hardtop we have. For me to supply them to fit straight onto other kits would be extremely costly and difficult to say the least.

Sambo - Cant you take a mold of the one you fit to your car after the roof is extended? You might need 2 molds, but if the interest is great enough might be worth it.

Just a thought.

Andrew, if I got that much interest from Harrison owners I might consider it but it wouldn't fit the extended bodies (a majority these days) and windscreen rake would need to be the same as mine. Plus I hear Warwick is organising a new body mould so new cars probably wouldn't fit either.

I haven't modified the hardtop yet Alffie. We need to make the mould from the 'original' before I stretch it to fit my car.

The DB top is a great looking top Sambo
If you can keep those fluid lines when extending it to suit the different profile of the cars it will look great.

Hi Gav. I guess that's up to the individuals who modify them to suit. The approach I'll be taking is to cut across the roof at the highest point and stretch about 70mm to suit my car. The stretched area becomes the highest point and it should be relatively easy to blend with the roof profile that way - as opposed to extending the area closer to the screen. The areas that contact the body will obviously be cut/extended to suit.

Sambo, Can you measure the DB top in area as marked in following pic.


I want to see how different it is to the CR.

I can lay my screen back, but I like the current angle.

Dave, that distance is 625mm to the leading edge of the top of the screen or 650mm to the front edge - due to the width of the windscreen frame. Does that make sense?

That measurement you have supplied, is that measured on your car, or on the roof?

Do you have a pic of the leading edge of roof from underside so I can see how it fits.
As it looks like it is designed to sit over the front of screen frame, so I would have thought there was only 1 way to measure (but it may have a C shaped section that sits over frame ?)

If I did this (still more on the not side than the want) then yes my Roll bar would need to be modified.
I do plan on modifying the roll bar anyway mid next year when I finally make my car shiney (will add brackets for a proper 4 point harness)

That measurement was taken from the actual roof.

Here's a photo of the corner of the roof, not from the underside but I can arrange that later. It fits over the front of the screen in a C section as you describe.

Stiffy et al, perhaps I should rename this thread to "positive" expressions of interest.

The question has been asked as to whether this offer is open to CCCV (Vic club) members to which the answer is YES. I don't mind who you are - the only requirement is a reasonable deposit. The more orders taken in the initial run, the easier it will be to recoup the costs and the lower the price will be.

I can organise a group "fitting" for those who would like to see how much customisation is required for their car.
