I'm going to echo Steve... take a good hard look (and drive) in a MINI Cooper S. I don't know how much they cost down-under, but $25k will get you a new one here in the States.

I bought one last October and have been having a blast with it ever since. Lots of room on the inside (I'm 6'4", 265lbs and fit fine). Handles like a gocart.
