Hiya BJ, I had the same problem. I have a 302W 1987 block which had the reverse rotation (serpentine belt) pump. Blu$$y heavy cast iron pump which had a puny little pressed steel impellor.

I changed the timing chain cover to a SVO M-6059-D351 which has provision for a mechanical fuel pump (I blanked that off) and a front dip stick hole. ( can blank that off too if you prefer the side dip stick.)

On front of that I used the SVO M-8501-F351 standard rotation alum. pump which has the CNC machined impellor which does not cavitate as much as the pressed ones. Also uses ball/rollor bearing for the shaft.

This pump is said to provide max flow & pressure with equal distribution to both banks.

Dont be talked into any of the so called race pumps as they flow low volume at street revs.

Hope that helps

Cheers

Thanks Rebel1,
I was hoping that I did not have to change timing cover. They say a Ford Crown Vic [whatever the equivelant is here in OZ] water pump is standard rotation and bolts straight up to 87 Windsor . I will do a bit more research otherwise just get one from the states as this seems to be the easiest way to get any thing that fits first time around. As you can see I am very disallousioned with the help I am getting in this %$#@hole we call the National Capital.Wish I was back in Gods Country with You guys.
Cheers BJ
