Steering rack question
Another question here for the Classic guys with dark side engines.
Can someone measure the diameter of there crank drive pulley as mine contacts the steering rack.
My car is standing on its own feet now with engine and box all bolted in (makeing gearbox mount today) I trailered it into work this morning so I can use mig welders, cut off wheels etc that are all avaialble at work.
I cant believe how small it looks sitting in the workshop on the ground, small except for the driveline.

Hi Boxhead,
My crank drive pulley is 190mm in diameter and it has a gap of about 50mm to the steering rack.

I have about 20mm gap with mine and I have used the standard GM commodore donut type engine mounts. I machined 20mm spacer rings to raise it tho this as Ian at CR advised me that 20mm was correct. I can machine some up for you if you cant get access to a lathe etc, so let me know.

Looks like another problem Classic Revival have with there LS1 kit you would think by now Ian would have changed his chassis jig from when he did my car (2-3yrs ago) because the Corvette crank drive pulley is about 20mm closer to the block than the holden or any other model of LS1 as my motor bolted straight in with no spacers.
Small job for him = head achs for everyone else

Thanks for that Leeroy, I will get some spacers machined up through the week.
Getting them made from alloy should be ok?
Nowhere in his build manual does it say I need spacers, but the manual isnt specific regarding engines.

Craig,
Interesred to know how close your sump is to ground. I am running high energy sump (8.5 litre) with the 20mm alloy spacer under donuts and ended up fitting a shield to protect sump as I have about 70mm clearance with bottom suspension arms parallel with ground.
I agree there is more not in the CR manual than in the CR manual but thats half the challenge

You guys actually got a manual???
Mine was an early attempt and kind of read like this:
Step 1. bolt the diff in.
Step 2. attach the rear suspension.
Step 3. attach the front suspension.
.
.
.
Step 27. Your cobra is complete.
I believe the manual has come a long way since I got my kit.
I'm running A Camaro LS1 on Corvette mounts and Holden donuts. No spacers needed and I have 20mm clearance between the bottom puley and the rack.
I wonder if there is a difference in the design of the Holden front pulley and the Chev pulley? I know the Corvette front pulley is quite different to the Camaro pulley. The Holden one may be different again. I suspect this as my water pump has a different pulley to the Holden motor.
Fortunately the low profile intake means there's plenty of room to raise the motor up if needed.

My sump on the Corvette ls1 is level with the bottom of the chassis rails so it has pretty good ground clearance.
