Question Cobras to California in a container

I have just "Posted" on "ALL COBRA TALK" under the "Thread".. Bringing a Cobra to California.

I know this is regarding transfer of a vehicle from state to state but it prompted my memory re; some old "Posts' with discussions by owners here in Australia regarding taking some Cobras to the states.

I'm currently making calls to Australian Customs etc. to see what is involved with paperwork and guarantee returns etc. I have some innitial estimates on a 40' container and costs.

I'm also waiting for Shannon's Insurance to get back to me regarding some costs of insurance and insurance overseas.

Anyone interested?

Bernie

Hi Bernie

I work for a certain government department that just happens to deal with 'quarantine" matters entering Australia.

If you want further information and or advise on how to facilitate a smooth re-entry into Australia, just let me know!

Bernie,

I took my Rice Burner to the US with me when I moved there in 97, I also brought it back home last year. Nearly took the Cobra too... should have done, it could have magically transformed into a Kirkham while I was there

The paperwork is a simple matter to guarantee a non dutiable return and the US end is a breeze. Most shipping companies will have the info. If you get onto most international relo websites they are also full of useful info.

So why are you taking the car?? Run n Gun?

You can get a permit to drive it on the road in the US for a limited time, even as a RHD.

BTW, you will get 4 cars in a 40...

Talking Could be interesting

Bernie keep me in the loop, might like to do that sort of thing.

Run and Gun Aussie invasion.

I Know CTC have the stacking frames that allow two cars in one smaller container if this helps with costs, and when camerons arrives with its Female counterpart on top, ( only mention female cause she is beautiful ), there will be another stacking kit here.

Regards Garrett

P.S CTC Guys might be interested too.

Hey Bernie:

If you end up making the trip .. come on over to Arizona. I would be glad to host a party on your behalf in Scottsdale. I traveled extensively through Australia a while back and couldn't belive the hospitality - and life long friends I have been able to enjoy.

I would love to return the favor and I'll bet we can get a bunch of Az. cobras out - I would like to meet more myself. Sooo I know it is just a dream right now but I promise a party worth the drive..!

Justbetter

Sounds perfect if you can get the second stacking kit from CTC.

Perhaps we can talk with Brian, Cameron about holding this for us.

I have seen a stacking kit at SPF in Costa Mesa and it would be perfect. The greater cost/amount of shipping was the prep of the container for safe shipping.

Danni Berage in Geelong has put me onto one of his shipping company contacts. Shannon's Insurance are still trying to come to grips with the idea and how they could handle it.

Will talk more about this at the Nationals.

Cheers

Bernie

Cameron

We think alike.. Perhaps a new KC 427 or a 427FE would need to replace the tired old Windsor 351.

Once I get a little more information I will ring you and discuss the details.

Cheers

Arizona sounds good. Have heard it was over 120f there during the summer peak?

Mr.Pink may not want me there after giving him a hard time about the drivers licence "Thread" there on the Arizona site.

If we arrived in LA and then travelled across to Shelby American we could head down south to you.

I have been talking with BTSNAKE in Arizona (Hershal GT40).

Hershal spent some time with me in my Cobra in Melbourne Australia recently and he has been talking about a trip over to DVSF in Columbus Ohio next summer.

We will see how it costs out and what's involved. Some real interest here so far.

Cheers

Hi Lyn,

How's the Cobra going there?

Keep an eye out as we will progress this site and idea along once more information come in. Will need your expertise for sure - thanks.

Anyone got another suggestion for the shipping agent?

Anyone some thoughts on insurance?

Cheers

king jason II

Once some figures/costs come in, and if there is then enough interest, I will "Post" a "Thread" on ALL COBRA TALK that we are coming and see what ideas our friends in the States have re events, club runs, shows etc.

A full box of four cars should keep the costs down I think.

See you at the Nationals. Hopefully will have more information then.

Cheers

For shipping try MAO (Mid America Overseas), you may get some backfill from them.

I don't have a number handy, but I shipped literally tens of thousands of containers with these guys over the years.

I'll see what I can dig up. I would go with LLoyds for insurance...or AMS, or Pacific Title...

Timing?
Duration?
Players?

I bet I can't, but I'd love to!!

Bernie and all... I hope you guys can make it.

Bernie, forget about Mr.Pink. We will tie a long stick around his neck, dangle a carrot on the end and he will run in circles forever.

Bernie:

Better yet (the LV leg). The run from LV to Phx is a great one..there a few open road spaces where you can let it hang out. We can send a few spotters down the road. LV-Phx is a pretty cool run over the Damn through deserts and canyons . We can end it at my hanger at the scottsdale airport. My hanger comes complete with Baja Cantina built in the back perfect for that returned favor party I was talking about. Now that I think of it.. I will post a picture of the cantina...that alone would be worth the trip. Kind of a desert version of an Australian Rowing Club.

V35B

Forget the costs ..I thought you were an Aussie..come on over.

Hi John

Thanks for the offer.

I will not have to move in next door to Mr. Pink then...

(The "Drivers Licence" "Thread")

Just stay at the Cantina!!

John, I could not do the LA to LV for a Shelby visit after the Run N Gun last year, as the smog/smoke last October was really bad from the Cal. fires.

Kris Kincaid was kind enough to offer a tour behind the scenes and I had to ring him and apologise as we were stuck at LAX.
To much smoke and debris.

So look forward to doing that next summer when heading down to AZ. for the trip to Columbus Ohio with Hershal.

Hershal has been kind enough to offer his Midstates for me to follow him over in his GT40...

Now the container of Cobras...

The container option does look good and early costings appear to be around $1500 per car for freight, paperwork and insurance based on four (4) Cobras owners taking this idea up.

Obviously, the next step will be to pick a date that is suitable once we have four. Could possibly do it with just two (2) in the 20' box. Anyway

I have a 30 mile (45k) pine forest run over here that I do very, very early every now and then. Great fun to blast along at 180.
No wonder my engines fKed!!

Cheers

Bernie

Bernie, I assume $1500 round trip.... Sounding very doable ..

Hmmm... pencil me in... what dates are these... I'm sure I have some US business that can't do without my attention around then whenever then is

Cameron

P.S I lived in LA for 5 years and have some cool contacts and spots if you wanted to stretch to a couple of days in LA... Think Hollywood Hills.

Question Dates

Cameron

Early indicators are about $1500 but some firm insurance details are yet to come in.

Re a date.

I have a trip to Columbus Ohio organised for mid next year (US summer) for the Double Venom Spring Fling.

Check their site.

Thinking maybe after that for the 'Run N Gun' in third quarter 2005?

Re LA I should have talked to you prior to my visit there last year. I did all the normal things there. Venice, Malibu up to the Getty in north LA etc etc.

I stayed down at Huntington Beach on 18th and had a top two weeks there.

Once we have some costs, I will talk with anyone keen to look/explore into it further to pick some dates.

Cheers

I always wondered what DVSF stood for

LA has some fun spots... and I do know some fun Hollywood types.... think paaarrrttteee

You know those movies with the parties set on grounds where the pool merges with the LA skyline.... thats where we would go..

Cameron

P.S. Next Summer (US Time), good timing here.

Bern,

8 weeks without the Cobra - What ARE you going to do?

Take my hat off to you being able to do what you want to do!

As M. Luther King said "I have a dream!"
