David

I take issue to the fact that you are bagging the sh!t out of a manufacturer's car without justifying why. Btw there are plenty RCM owners, who I personally know, who continue to be very happy with their cars.

I took issue that you were incorrect as to the origins of the RCM body which you still haven't addressed. I asked you to clarify where your body came from. Even Bernie who does not have a RCM understood it to be that your body was copied from a RCM.

Instead of addressing these issues you just bring up a bunch of new ones.

Obviously you still do care.

All I'm doing is giving a different point of view to yours, so that other forum users can decide for themselves where the truth lies.

Getting back to the thread, if this RC kit has no engineer's drawings then I would steer well clear. Firstly, your engineer will have to do all the chassis tests which will add to the cost of certification and secondly, you don't know if the chassis will even pass. If it doesn't you'll need to strengthen it and get it retested or get a new chassis that will. Also you may find that it will need to comply with Euro3 regs. If in doubt get a engineer to check it out before you buy.

miniboy miniboy

Just look what you might be getting yourself into!

fun isn't it, but politics and past history aside, the best advice is the last.

Beware of kits with dubious engineering status as the cheap purchase price may well be off-set by significant expenditure post purchase trying to get the chassis to meet ADR requirements!

There might also be issues with making other parts fit the kit but this is a far more common theme for these builds so less likely to be a major hassle, though it won't seem like that at the time.

PM me as in my past searching I found a part built kit that might still be lying around from a known and current builder. Can tell you more when you email me.

Cheers

Steve

Sorry for the slow response.........boy you are so wrong, i will go into more detail later, but be assured, that there was no way that we copied that body of lorries.

I don’t have issues with Lorries; it’s the kit I had issues with, that’s why I sold it.

I think lourie has issues; maybe he should get on the forum and try to save face.

As for Bernie, maybe he got fed the same crap for the past 15 years or so.

Give me time and ill give the perfect reason as to which kit we copied.

Maybe some people should wake up???.

miniboy
look at it this way anything worth building needs a good foudation car house whatever so if youre trying to do it on the cheap try and save money on other components but not on a chassis or a body that needs heaps of work which will cost about the same price as a new one by the time you get it right
cheers

I never said you did copy Laurie's body. I said that I have seen two examples of your cobra kit whose body and chassis looked just like Lauries. (Don Stafford's and the other car was silver with orange stripes, can't remember the owner's name.) They both looked so similar that I even asked both owners if their Cobra was a RCM. They both said no, it's a RC Sports replica. I asked you to clarify where your body was sourced as I have heard numerous sources that your body was copied from an RCM, just like Bernie stated. I was giving you an opportunity to explain this.

Please explain what was wrong with the kit instead of just bagging it. Was there something inherently wrong with the design? Was it the quality of the build you had issues with? Who built it? If it was so bad why did you use it as a demo car? How long did you use it as a demo car?

I personally don't think Laurie has issues at all. All I did was ask Laurie where his body came from. It came from an Arntz, end of story. You brought Laurie into this thread first:

I don't think Laurie needs to save face either as you suggest. He has sold over eighty kits, over seventy are registered with a few more, including mine, just around the corner. All the RCM owners I've met are proud of their Cobra's. I've seen some RCM's win show & shine awards and there is usually an RCM near the pointy end at the Nationals - eg Trevor Hill in 2005. I have found Laurie to be extremely helpful, fielding the many questions I have about my build and he has been genuinely interested in my progress. For someone like myself I have found his backup invaluable.

Why is it that Bernie and others were fed the same crap? Who was behind it and what possible motivation would drive them to say whatever it was they've being saying? Why has it stuck? Have you done anything to promote this?

Great. I'm sure, judging by the interest in this thread, that many people would be interested. I'd suggest you keep it factual as you never know who looks at these forums....

I couldn't agree more.

All this banter only serves to divide people. As a RCM owner/builder I have naturally taken your comments about the quality of Laurie's kit personally as I don't have issues with the quality. If you have a genuine issue with the quality of Laurie's kit then I would suggest you seek him out first and resolve it before posting on a forum. I know that Laurie, over the years, has sought to continually improve his kit; including chassis, suspension and body. A RCM today is not exactly the same as it was ten years ago. Perhaps this is part of the reason why this thread continues. It is also another reason why you should talk to Laurie directly as any issues you did have with your demo car might no longer exist.

Mmmmmm..

And all I said was the body was lifted off one of Lauries cars...

At the end of the day there is an old gentleman out there who has spent millions of dollars trying to stop replicas of his car.

One that he first brought into the USA after convincing Ford that he had an idea on how to beat Enzo and his Ferraris'...

The rest is history. To copy is the sincerest form of flattery.

Who's body came first an RCM or a RC...a bit like,.. 'was it the chicken or the egg'. Who cares?, we just eat the eggs and enjoy.

venom0427, I apologise if I made the mistake in nominating your body being taken from Lauries'. To be honest, I was still at school when that all happened, or didn't happen anyway...

My understanding is they all came off the old guys at one time or another... Any wonder he gave up on his pursuit of the big manufacturers who lifted bodies from his in the States..

Perhaps venom0427 you could give some advice to the original 'Post' it may help him with his enquiry.
