A few other things to add to the list to improve reliablility:

Good Quality Rod Bolts, these are a bit of a weak link in engines turning really big revs. The Rods are very strong and there are plenty of blown and turbo combinations making 600HP on stock rods.

Ported LS6 oil pump. Early motors ie 97-00 had some oil pump failures so it's a good idea to replace it with a later pump. Porting it improves flow and they usually have the pressure relief shimmed to up the pressure a bit.

I've got a new cam, dual springs, titanium retainers, molly push rods, LS6 Pump coming from the US. Guys in the US using this cam regularly get more than 400 RWHP and with ported heads are getting up around 440RWHP. That equates to well over 500HP at the crank.

So Mike can you tell me who you got your parts from and what they were exactly , did you also get a top mounting throttle body ?
Also which direction does your water pump run??
Thanks Paul

Cheers

As Mike says, cam only or head and cam will do it, though your exhaust must be good.

These motors are pretty tough, personally I wouldn't worry about pulling it apart. Mikes advice on the oil pump for LS1's (not the later LS6) sounds like good advice.
If I was going to pull it down I wouldn't put the stock crank back in, after all, there's no substitute for cubic inches.
I will be running mine unopened for a fair while, but when it does get opened it will be angry, real angry...

My Ute makes around 340 rwhp, which equates to roughly 430 flywheel hp. That is unopened, with the standard intake manifold, running big serpentine belts for power steering, a/c etc.

Realistically, you'll only need to make around 400 rwhp (300 rwkw) to achieve your goal of 500 flywheel hp.

Disclaimer: Converting rear wheel power to flywheel power is not an exact science, I really only care about power at the wheels or ET's at the strip!!!
