New Toy for the shed
Sadly, I haven't touched the Cobra for nearly four months now (yeah I know, I told people I'd have it running by last xmas). I've been away for work and just bought a new house but things are going to change. Within the next couple of weeks I'll start to get back into it, (hopefully it'll be running by xmas this year)...
The new property obviously included a shed (and some sort of brick structure that the missus spends a lot of time in!). After sprucing up the interior of the brick structure, I felt that the shed had been neglected, so I decided to get a hoist....
Even though the Cobra lifts to a reasonable height (during the assembly phase at least) I really need to raise the roof of the shed to lift normal cars to a decent height. I'll have to get onto this in the near future....

Plums,
seriously green with envy.
I keep telling my daughter once she leaves home I am cutting the floor out of her room so I can put a hoist in the garage below
How easy is life with a hoist.

Just raise the floor of her room 3 feet. She's not going to bump her head with a 6foot ceiling height.
Great stuff Bobby. I'm envious. Mind if I ask how much it cost? Was it new or 2nd hand?
Cheers

I was going to ask the same thing Mike. Just looking on eBay and they're up around $4000 for a 240V mains, 4 poster rated at 3500kg.
... that's only a little more than nice alloys and tyres!

It's a Propark7 3150kg hoist and was $4000 (new) delivered to WA, and came with two jack trays (comes std with one), to change wheels etc. whilst up there. I also got two scissor style jacks (actually 1000lb motorcycle jacks) that fit in the jack trays for $100 each as well.
It came very well packed, was relatively straight forward to assemble and seems to be very well built. It comes with a castor system too so you can move it around if required. I went for the 4 poster mainly for the extra safety it provides and ease of use.
I got it from Clive at Tufflift Hoists http://www.tufflift.com/page12.htm in Melbourne. Clive was very good to deal with and threw in some extra's to seal the deal.
I might take some more pictures over the coming weeks and post them up...
Can't wait to lift the roof now, I'm thinking of just raising one side by a metre..... any ideas???

Clive Broad lives out in Yarrambat in Victoria and is sure easy to deal with.
He loves to chat about what the hoist is for. Think he is a Lotus fan.
He also has a single post that is cheaper at a listed price of $2950.oo GST Inc.
I really like the four poster though.
Clive is at Ashley Road, Yarrambat Vic.
He can be contacted on Mob. 0418 325 436 or at home on 0394361809.
He has a site at
www.tufflift.com
I have one on hold for the new Geelong garage...

I have seen an installation that has lifted only the sheets of iron roofing that are above the windscreen. So this allowed the screen to go up into the raised section. Lift between the two steel trusses.
Make sense..

It's the smallest one, a Propark7 (7000 lb) 3150kg.

Good it's the same considered here. It just looked bigger in the picture. When I saw that you 'Posted' the Propark7 details above, I was curious.
Thanks mate

I was talking to Clive this arvo and he directed me to this site. With the jacks that you got did you get them from Clive too? I spoke to him about jacks but he didn't mention scissor lifts at all. He suggested an airbag jack.
I've almost made up my mind to buy a propark7, so any extra info you can post re your experience with yours would be greatly appreciated.
thanks

I just came across that one as well. Only thing is they are $495 US.
Plums mentioned only paying $100 each for his.
I also found this on ebay which might be worth thinking about. Probably not the best quality but for occasional use it might be ok.

The jacks that I'm using are actually motorcycle jacks that Clive supplied to me. They are rated at 1000lbs each and Clive says he uses two to lift one end of the car. The jack is called the Black Jack, they are here at the bottom of the page, http://www.tufflift.com/page14.htm
I have only played with one of the jacks lifting just one end of the Cobra and it lifted it no trouble at all (I did use the rattle gun to raise and lower though because I'm a lazy bastard). The jacks look like OEM style scissor jacks that most cars come with as standard, but they have taken some serious steroids.
They come with various attachments that aren't shown on the website and look quite tough. He'll do a pretty good price on them too, if you're nice
As for the lift itself, I really haven't played with it too much yet (and probably won't for a while yet) but I am very happy with it. It's very well built, looks extremely strong and lifts higher than I expected, (I just need to raise my roof...).
Any other questions just let me know.
