2/6/07 what a day !!!!!
Well what a day it has been for me today.
The cobra ( Betty) have been regoed for 3 days now and this morning I'm off for a tune.
Get there nice and early 8am and meet Sonny , great guy.
But the car on the dyno and power her up.
First run 237 rwkw.
Not bad for a stock LS1,a few adjustments and where up to 248.
Them im asked is this motor stock, I reply yep.
a few more adjustments and 254.7 rwkw, 560 Nm .
Im asked again sure its a stocker .
Yep.
Its powered up again and wants to make more but the fuel pump isnt up to it and starts to lean out a bit.
So we leave it at that.
After reving it to 6100rpm many times , Sonny runs it a little slower just to do a final check and the dyno locks sending the car straight off into the fan in front.
OOPS !!
Anyway no one hurt and only a small stratch on the nose.
I was having problems starting it so off for a new alternator and battery.
Now all fixed and goes like a bastard.
Great take it around to a mates house and take him for a ride.
Mate gets in 1st gear , 2nd gear around the corner and over the rise, what the !!!!, a dog in the middle of the road.
I hit the brakes (whilst thinking to myself have i set the brake bias correctly ?) answer NO.
The back end locks the car slides around , mounts the gutter and hits a tree.
Great !!!!!!
A brand new cobra 3 days old and I have smashed the rear in !!
Damage report, fuel tank ripped out rear right hand side re shaped by tree.
Lucky I got a cover note in Friday.
What a day.

no way!
Slow 427, I feel for you buddy, not the best start, as long as you and your mate are ok. Just a thought, I had a similar experience happen a while back where I actually hit the dog (not in the Cobra though). The impact did not kill the dog but caused significant damage to the car. Through some detective work I found out that if the dog's owners have contents insurance it will actually cover any damage caused by the dog as it was not on a leash, I chased this up and was actually paid for in full, I just paid the excess. I don't know how you would go as you hit the tree but I believe it to be in the same category, if you know or find out who the dog's owners are then you should try this avenue. Once again, sorry about your incident.

The old black dog
I think the black dog has been responsible for more spin outs than just about anything else.
What a ba$tard.
How long to get back (rebuild) to where you where??

Stefanog
Mmmm if you don't kill the dog it gives you the opportunity to follow the bugger home to kill the owners...
I've been lucky - missed a kangaroo by a second on one trip home. Recently ran over a koala bear that fell out of a tree.. . Luckily he was only small and went in under the front guard near the nose cone..
It took weeks to get the residue of the undercarriage...
Dogs and wildlife...

That's really bad news Paul.
If you can find the owners of that dog you could probably get them to cover your dammages. As the owners of the dog they are legaly responsible for it and it's wherabouts. It should have been locked in their yard or on a lead.
Cheers

Sorry to hear about the damage - that's just one of the reasons I don't like pets - glad to hear you're ok though. I agree with Mike, the owners are resonsible and you should seek restitution from them.
On to your power figures. I agree with Sonny, I don't believe that is a stock engine. A stocker will usually make around 180 - 190 rwkW's, with some up to 200 (it's very rare that you'll crack 200 unless it's been tuned before and the owner doesn't know about it). Getting over 250 at the wheels is also extremely rare, there are only couple of stockers that I know about that have achieved this.
It is possible that his Dyno was giving incorrect readings, due to the fact that it did fail during the session.

OUCH, that damage looks a little costly to me. Glass doesn't always show the full extent of structural damage.
One hell of a way to get a better fuel system.
I agree with Plums, maybe a happy dyno on that day. They are great tuning tools as they at least give you a baseline and where you finished. As to final numbers....take em with a grain of salt.
Hope all goes well with the repair.

Glad you are OK Paul.
It looks like the body may have to come off, that adds heaps to the labour bill.
My engine is the same as yours, I hope it puts down the same power!

Paul,
I am sick to the stomach reading about your accident, I can only imagine the expletives used. Betty is such a hotty so head down bum up ol' son and you'll have her ready again in no time.
