I would probably keep spending on my current car... a 2006 Golf GTI. Yeah yeah, front wheel drive turbo shopping trolley... but I've added a turbo back exhaust, cold air intake and flashed the ECU, giving 188kw and 412nm. Stage III (big turbo, exhaust manifold, fuel mods) would take it to 400HP, but then you need to add the LSD to sort out the torque steer. Add some big brakes and there's your 75k gone.

If I looked second hand I would probably still want something practical... a BMW M3 or 330ci? I can't think of anything else that would make big power, handle well and still be reliable. Porsche maybe?

Is that running the DSG Sambo? We bought the new Jetta TDI with the DSG last year. I was considering getting the FSI turbo version which has the same engine as your GTI. In the end I figures something super economical would be the go since if I wanted to go fast I could jump in the Cobra.

I reckon I could build a good GT40 for $75K or a Daytona Replica. But for my money I'd be building an Ultima GTR. The very comprehensive kit is about $16,000 UK pounds so about $38,000 Aussie. Add another $5K to get it delivered down under and you've got a few bucks left over for an engine and trans, paint and interior.

Check out their web page: Ultima

Cheers
