Default What would you buy for your Money

After apollogetically hijacking another thread, I thought it would be interesting what you all would buy if you didn't have a Cobra.

I know most would say a Cobra, but what else is there for the money (Say up to $75,000) that would give the thrill and pride that a Cobra gives.

Don't want to detract from the Cobra Site, as I love my ***** , but it would be intersting to know what an Aussie would shoot for.

A Lotus Seven looks the business from a driving viewpoint , but not quite the sex appeal of a Cobra.

A Lotus Elise looks the part, but having seen one crash with my son in it, such a memory puts me off one.

What else is there out there (so to speak)

$60,000 Les would buy one - but don't think they are available in Oz.

Very very very fun car!

I would probably keep spending on my current car... a 2006 Golf GTI. Yeah yeah, front wheel drive turbo shopping trolley... but I've added a turbo back exhaust, cold air intake and flashed the ECU, giving 188kw and 412nm. Stage III (big turbo, exhaust manifold, fuel mods) would take it to 400HP, but then you need to add the LSD to sort out the torque steer. Add some big brakes and there's your 75k gone.

If I looked second hand I would probably still want something practical... a BMW M3 or 330ci? I can't think of anything else that would make big power, handle well and still be reliable. Porsche maybe?

Evo X should squeak under the 75K limit.

Steady steady steady Sambo.

I have a WRX and you won't find a better car down a forest track - just gotta find that track

Subbie is excellent, but its just another car on the road. That's where the Cobra takes over - forget the awd, forget the traction control - sheer driving!

If you were in Europe the GTI Golf has been and still is one of the stand out cars, but (always a but) its not quite got the sex appeal of a Cobra.

Sambo

A 330 BMW..yes I must say I agree. One of my little pleasures is taking Anne's out for a coffee - with her..

Great fun to drive on a nice day and it has a nice little exhaust roar...

But as you know, I'm third in line after Anne and Todd for the keys..

Is that running the DSG Sambo? We bought the new Jetta TDI with the DSG last year. I was considering getting the FSI turbo version which has the same engine as your GTI. In the end I figures something super economical would be the go since if I wanted to go fast I could jump in the Cobra.

I reckon I could build a good GT40 for $75K or a Daytona Replica. But for my money I'd be building an Ultima GTR. The very comprehensive kit is about $16,000 UK pounds so about $38,000 Aussie. Add another $5K to get it delivered down under and you've got a few bucks left over for an engine and trans, paint and interior.

Check out their web page: Ultima

Cheers

Aussie Mike

Mike,

I had an opportunity to check out Rosen's convert. Ultima at the Run N Gun. Nice kit.

The dark blue one is still floating around up north - the one that Dick J. Racing had for a while.

The GT40 for $75k is very realistic.

There's some opportunities coming up if you wanted to go a GT40 ex the USA. It could/would go on club plates. Believe about $50k would do - with a 302ci with an eight stack FI. and a new Texas box...

Bernie - that's a nice one, and how hard it must be waiting in line while you're sitting in a Cobra!

Mike - no I've got manual but the DSG is a very nice gadget. I test drove both several times but I just found the manual more involving. I do very little peak hour driving so it wasn't a matter of convenience... although launch control in the DSG is pretty cool.

Ok since this is a bit of a random thread, who's going to the Vic club meet on Thursday? I was thinking of dropping in.

Random!

I was hoping for a few more "out there" cars.

Ultima - Yes, Aerial Atom - definitely

Mike - how do you get a Daytona (other than building for $75k)?

Sorry, yes I'm thinking in terms of how much it would cost me to build one.

Warwicks kit is about $20K and I reckon for another $55K you could spec it out very nicely.

Cheers

My cheeks!!....forget my cheeks macloft, question is ......

What would it do to my pecker? ..... that thing would give me a boner quicker than a nubile Jennifer Hawkins.

Would eat a cobra in a straight line.
Would absolutely eat a cobra in the twisties.
Would draw as much attention as a cobra.

What more is there?
