Warning Lights

Can I just check to see which dashboard warning lights are absolutely required under the ADR's (gauges would do the rest)? I am thinking Hi-Beam, L & R indicators, Hand brake/brake fluid level, Seat Belts????

Next, where is a good place, in Australia, to buy them? I was thinking of the ones with the symbols on the faces of the lights?

I am sure that many have been through the same process.

Or you could also try Simon Clemens from WA. His source work out at about $13 each plus the postage say about $125 all up. But now having looked at where you are, Snakebite's are very similar.

Simon has also produced a 4 bladed fan version if waring is neede on thermo fan, or other fan, applications!

I'd been told by my engineer (Victoria) that I don't need the engine check light, the one showing the engine block, but you do need all the other 8 lights for ADR purposes. Best check with your local engineer too!

Thanks guys! Will get on to Don Pilling at Snake Bite! Still not sure how many one HAS to have, given gauges cover so much.

The remaining 8 or so lights cover safety functions not covered by guages unless you have inbuilt indicator or high beam warning lights.

Safety belt timer, brake fail, hand brake on/off, not sure why the need for low oil warning light and alternator.

Thanks Steven. I have bought most of them from Snake Bite at Labrador, but I am not sure about the oil warning lite and alternator lite?? Seems to replicate the gauges. Some guys have them, some not and there is nothing on the ADR websites that specifies which lites MUST be fitted. Trying to keep the dash uncluttered and original.

Merv, the short answer is... you'll be required to fit whatever warning lights your engineer says that you need. A lot of the ADRs are open to interpretation and differ from state to state. Your engineer is the only one who can clear this up definitively. Just look at side pipes... legal in WA but driver's side only in Victoria.

The advantage of having warning lights where you also have gauges, is that you tend to not always notice gauges creeping up, but you certainly tend to notice if a warning light if it pops on. So a warning light is great insurance.

In my experience with a partner driving these things, a warning light is essential as my other half never watches the gauges. But will panic if a warning light appears.
