Mmmm I was going to stay out of this one..
Hungry Jacks is so called as the owner Jack Gowin who was the principle for Burger King in Australia so named it.
Mr. Gowins is based in Western Australia and often appears in - always appears in - the Rich 200 in Business Review Weekly.
The reference that 'joey hv' has made to Jack in the Box, refers I think to the problems that this chain had in the USA many years back with food poisoning.
At McDonald's all food and equipment is checked for food safety and calibration each day. There is over 100 individual food safety checks completed daily. And it does get done I can assure you.
This is everything from fridge and freezer temperatures to individual food temps probed 4 times per day. All of this is recored in a food safety book that is displayed in the kitchen area.
With the addition of McCafe, Salad Plus and Deli Choice, McDonald's has stayed at the forefront of the fast food industry.
We are the largest employer in Australia and the largest purchaser of food related packaging, product and cleaning products.
If you still think McDonald's sells junk food, then I can only say you need to look at the website. The last 10 years has seen a massive change in food products that fit every lifestyle and dietary need.
see www.mcdonalds.com.au
Mmmm guess that enough from me in marketing...

Edit: Bernie, I love a good dose of McD's after a few beers but it's not health food! The mainstay items are still loaded with sugar and the kids aren't walking in there for the deli choices! And why are the cheeseburgers getting smaller every year?!

We have Burger King and Hungry Jack's in Australia...... It's the same chain, but here is the difference as far as I know: Hungry Jack's stores are franchised through the guy in WA (as Bernie pointed out) and, Burger King is franchised direct from the US.
I started typing up a big spiel about the court battle between HJ's and Burger King but found this instead.....
History of "Burger King" in Australia
When Burger King decided to expand its operations into Australia, it found that its business name was already trademarked by a man running a small takeaway food shop in Queensland. As a result, Burger King provided the Australian franchisee, Jack Cowin, with a list of possible alternative names that the Australian Burger King restaurants could be branded as. The names were derived from pre-existing trademarks already registered by Burger King and its then corporate parent Pillsbury. Cowin selected the "Hungry Jack" brand name, one of Pillsbury's US pancake mixture products, and slightly changing the name to a possessive form by adding an apostrophe 's' thus forming the new name Hungry Jack's. Accordingly, the first Australian franchise of the Burger King Corporation, established in Perth in 1971, was branded as Hungry Jack's.
You can read more about it here if you wish.. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hungry_Jack's

But I stopped growing 15 years ago! Seriously, the CB I had on the weekend, everyone in the car agreed it was 3/4 the size of a normal one.
