My CR2008 Cobra has a heart now (not a working heart yet though)
Hi All,
I had a big weekend too. (Not at Wakefield like the other lucky buggers).
I received my rolling chassis last week and couldnt help myself but to work on it every night til late.
This weekend was a big moment - I installed the engine/gearbox in to the chassis (with the body on).
It was tough but we got there.
Had to install from the diagonal as my Engine Crane wouldnt reach from the front. (Lots of swearing before figuring this out).
Now that I know how it is pretty simple.
I will post pics shortly.
Rgds

Top effort Gregg!
I reckon you would be pushing poop up a hill with a pointy stick to install an LS1 and T56 into the old chassis all in one go. The only way I've done it is with the body off otherwise it's slide the gearbox in and then drop the engine in after.
The T56 is a long gearbox.
Cheers

Thanks Mike.
Yes I was beginning to think I was going to have to remove the body or take the tranny off the engine. Both which I wasnt keen on, since I only put the tranny back on.
My heart skipped a few beats when I went to put the tail shaft on as I couldnt get the yoke horizontal to slide in. A bit of jiggering around and I found that once I poked the other end up and past the diff flange I could get the shaft back far enough to get the yoke horizontal and in it went.
The standard engine mounts all seemed to fit ok as well, even using the Commodore drivers side mount rather than the Chevvy one. The Engine mounting flanges on the CR2008 have slots in them now (I dont think the old chassis did) so you can adjust sideways if you need.
The rear transmission mount is a block of wood at present - I have a Mackay A1115 (a.k.a. Commodore VB-VK Transmission mount arriving later in the week).
Mike I need to ask you a couple of questions about Exhaust Manifolds - I'll PM you later.
Rgds

Kinda like putting a square peg in a round hole. I have an engine tilter and it makes it a hell of a lot easier when putting the engine and box in at the same time $150.00 from repco or near that.

Top work. There are loads of little bits and peices that will make life easier, such as an aftermarket thermostat housing with the outlet pionting forward rather out on the angle.
If you run into trouble there is a good chance someone here can help.
