Dark Silver - Grey Metallic

After many months of deliberating about colours and then deciding on black, I seem to have changed my mind. I knew that black would be hotter but all open tops are hot in summer. I also knew that black would show every mark and dust particle but ...

Anyway, I have decided to go for a dark grey/graphite/dark silver.

I have seen the ones on the US site but are there any posts here on dark silver or dark grey colours? Still not decided about the stripe issue either. I need to decide on the colour in the next week to advise the painter. All posts or suggestions appreciated!

Leigh Reaby's grey on silver looks very smart, have a look at his gallery for ideas. Not sure which but one of the colours is the same/similar to the Elanor mustang I believe.

Black

My Cobra is YELLOW

but when we pull into a truck stop, rest stop, gas station, parking lot, car show, everyone walks pass the red, blue, yellow, silver cobras and look at the black one first. Then they look at the rest. I have seen this happen a lot in the last 6 years.
It gets hot in North Alabama in the summer.

Merv,

New for the 09 Corvette is Cyber Gray and I recently saw one in a dealers show room and I thought that was about the nicest color of gray I have seen. You can get an idea
from this site http://www.chevrolet.com/corvette/colors/

I have a dark gray with silver stripe Superformance. I really like the color combination for several reasons: 1) It hides small rock chips quite well, 2) It doesn't show dirt and dust well, 3) It's not the typical color combination most people have come to expect, 4) It doesn't get as hot as you'd expect during summer months. Oh yes, the paint is by PPG and it was originally for a 2002 Dodge Viper.

Merv and Sharon 10-26-2008 03:33 PM

This is supposed to make it easier! That black does look damn good! But then there are the stone chips.... (anyway). The Corvette Cyber Grey is also very good.

The Viper Steel Grey (Pearl?), however, looks sensational. I wonder if that colour is available here in Australia? Painters usually ask "what car does it come off?"

Any pics of yours Sailfish?

Merv,

Steve's correct my colours were based on the elanore scheme colours. Tough decision always as you know you get one go at it and its a costly mistake if you miss.

Don't worry you always seem more critical of your own colour choice.

Thanks Leeroy. Your looks to have some green in there in some shots. is that right?

I checked out every shade of silver/charcoal on the planet. I ended up with VW Platinum gray metallic (used on Bugs and Jettas)with black stripes. It has a lot of metallic and pearl. Check out my gallery for pics.

Thanks Jim. You seem to have done your homework there! I even like the stripe that you have. I also noticed a VW silver/charcoal the other day on a VW Golf (Rabbit there). Was very nice. Hard to tell with reflections but does your colour include some green in it? I have dark green (early Jag colour) seats and black interior carpets. A slight green in the mix is OK but I would like to avoid any blue tones if possible.

I don't think it has any green in it (might be all the trees in the picture). The picture of the rear is a pretty accurate example of the color. The Golf/Rabbit color is different than mine. I can send you the actual paint code if you want. I must say, I get a lot of positive comments on the color. It's beautiful in the sunshine.

Sent you the info. Let me know if it didn't get there.

Merv, just to add confusion - I'm a big fan of the Lamborghini titanium colours that you see here.

My body was painted two weeks ago. I too was looking to paint it dark silver with lighter silver stripes but after some deliberation decided to paint it dark silver with flat black stripes, very similar to 'Eleanor' I suppose. It looks mean and "all business." I am extremely happy with how it turned out.

Painted my body two weeks ago in dark silver with flat black stripes. It looks very sharp and "all business" like. I didn't realize this until after the fact but it does look like the 'Eleanor.'

In the strange but true column if you want to use the same color it actually is off a Viper. Superformance offers it as an option but it is a Viper original.

Thanks again Ed. Maybe tricky getting that colour here but it does seem similar to the VW colour above(?). Hard to tell but yours has a real lustre to it-very nice!
