LS1 Throttle Response issue

Did you all hear the yeehaa!!

I have been having problems with throttle response and was getting a little frustrated.

I found the problem - you have to read my story to see what it was :-)


I was suspicious of my ECU tune and a kind fellow forum member suggested I try his spare ECU (it was a locked one).

I tried the other ECU and it seemed to be worse.

So I went back to the drawing board and I was always suspicious of my Fuel delivery and where I connected it in at the front of the car. Removed it and it it checked out ok. Tip no 1: Dont lie directly unde the car when disconnecting fuel hose - got fuel in my ear.

But..

When I put it back on I had a slight leak and had to re-tighten it. I then checked it for leaks and then I just happened to be underneath the car whilst the engine was idling and found that looking from underneath in relative low light one of the spark plugs on the passenger side near the firewall was sparking from the plug to the plug heat shield.

Aha I said.

This one is the one that is a very tight fit due to the headers and I thought I had it on properley but obviously not.

For a quick test I took the heat shiled off and went for a quick spin.

Bingo - car ran stacks better. Goes like stink now. Although the plug lead did come off partially during the test run and it started to miss again.

I then put the loan ECU back in and it made things a little worse so it looks like mine has a close enough tune at present.

I just need to figure out how to get this heat shield back on and ensure the plug lead stays on.

Easier to fix when you know what is causing the issue.

Anyway I am having a well earned beer and will get back to resolving this when the engine cools and I can get my hands in without burning them.
