Is a leak that is temporarily repaired with the Finilec OK to be repaired? What precautions do the tyre guys need to take so as not to get a nasty surprise?

Overall, sounds like a repair kit plus pump and/or a couple of cans of Finilec (or similar) will cater for on the go tyre repairs.

The small jack stand is a great idea. I have, when necessary, removed a wheel and placed it under the car incase of a fall but the small jack stand sounds very sensible.

And like many others, I always have the mobile!!

07cob, there is no problem fixing punctures once finilec has been used. The tyre repairer stands back from the wheel to let the gases out of the rim/tyre when he breaks the air seal. Once the tyre has been removed they wash the inside of the tyre with water to remove the residue from the Finilec.
As far as carrying extra tools I have a little ritual that I follow every time I take delivery of a new car. Ive only ever bought 1 secondhand vehicle when I was about 18 years old, a 4 cylinder ute that came without a jack or spare tyre, so I remove the jack and spare from every car Ive ever bought since then.
Knock on wood, so far so good!

This Finilec sounds the deal. Most of the reviews on it seem good. Just have to find where to buy it in Brisbane now! An electric pump is still needed? I thought that the Finilec expanded somewhat?

Then one needs a jack. I guess 'scissor' type is OK under the sill rail.

Make sure the jack you carry will fit under the frame with the tire flat. The original screw type jack that came with the Cobra would not go under the frame with a flat tire. I now carry a scissors jack that works fine. My car has the original sunburst wheel with the original blue dot tire as a spare. I also carry the top if I think there is a chance of heavy rain. The side curtains fit behind the seats.

I have done a bit of googling and can't find a Finilec seller in oz. But there two others that you should have a look at. Punch in "Slime" and have a read. Then look up...
Haigh Aust. and in their site look for "Liquid Patch tyre repair" in the side bar. Haig products are available at nearly all auto accessory places.
Both products go into the tyre as a liquid and stay that way until a puncture happens. A bit leaks out and seals the hole and the rest stays liquid till the next puncture. Two immediate downsides. You will need to carry a pump and you won't know if you picked up a nail or what ever. So you'd have to check the tyres regularly for things stuck in the tyre. I've seen other aerosol sealers but can't remember their names. The aerosol ones are good for when you come out to the car in the morning and the tyre is flat.

I now also note after the weekend a novel new boot use

............... that of a portable Coonarra heating system, for when cobra drivers are feeling a tad cold in the cockpit.

But clearly one has to maintain a high level of management over the hot coals lest the need arises to drop in on unsuspecting flag marshals to help ease their chills too!!

Perhaps this is the start of a new cobra parts market, stainless coal pans for the boot???? - lol

Got a 1 tonne scissor jack today that is <100mms high. Should fit under the Harrison sill, even with a flat tyre. Also got from Repco a product that is the same as Finilec. Now for something in the boot to hold all this stuff that is supposed to 'prevent' punctures!

Dragging up an old thread after a few guys were talking about tools, spares and puncture repairs during the run on the weekend...

I'm not a member of RACQ and I don't carry tools or spares. It's worked well for me over the years with the Cobra only ever needing to be towed once.

My mobile phone and the number for David Jones the towie on Brisbane south side is all I've needed.

Finilec has been around since the 70's, it was the original repair in a can. A lot of mixed reviews but most guy stayed away from it. Stories like it eats previous repairs/patches, doesn't last or doesn't work when you need it. Tubed tyres were still very common then and i think a lot of these issues with it were in these.

Just have the tyre stripped off the rim and cleaned out when you get it repaired.

Who's the rubber grub here - Rog246? He may have a view on it.

Here's the thing, would I use it ?
Only as a last resort, and I do mean only as a last resort. In most instances it absolutely roots the inside of the tyre if left in there-so if you need to use it get it stripped off and cleaned up as fast as you can-try not to leave it overnight if you can help it. I've seen rims absolutely stuffed by some of them that seemed to have a very acidic component to them-it also stinks to high heaven a bit like real sour milk & of course it is, by its very nature sticky. I think most of them have a very high latex base, which makes sense when you think about it, runny & sticky & stinky all at the same time.
If you use it be prepared to pay extra to get your rim & tyre cleaned up.
All that being said they probably have a place in the world-just not mine.
If I had a teenage daughter I'd likely have 2 cans in the boot just in case she got stuck somewhere, and I'd put up with the mess, but you do that with you girls, If I had a son-different story .
