Petrol Filler Pipe
G'day Have been attempting to instal the filler pipe to the tank, in my Harrison the problem is the only thing the tank pipe (alloy) and the hole in the fibreglass have in common are they are both on the same side of the car, they do not line up at all. I have an "unleaded " filler and cap from a Volvo that looked like it might come close, but no luck. I need to know if there are flexible 50 mm pipes for this purpose, alternatively I may be able to use a 90 and a 45 degree bend in Turbo Silicon inter-cooler pipes. Are there any problems with silicon and petrol? (I doubt it, but you never know) Thanks, Peter:confused:

Earls do sell a flexible fuel hose in 50mm. It is expensive but sounds like you wont need much. Depending on the supplier they may make you buy a minimum length though.

If you're a reasonable welder you can put something together out of off the shelf mandrel exhaust bends. Just cut them and fit them together to get from point A to B. Every time you add a clamp or a hose connection it's just another potential leak. Try to keep the connections to a minimum especially if the pipe goes through the boot space. I hate that fuel smell when you open the trunk and I see it regularly with custom cars. Also if the fuel filler hose goes through the wheel well, a continuous metal pipe will be a bit more robust to rocks and dirt. Cheers |
Yep you need a bend about 45 degrees and 2 flexible joins and 4 hose clamps.
Make sure the pipe is smooth ie no seam sticking out. Make sure you put a small breather pipe in the 45 degree bend and a earth wire strap. Sorry no pictures but I am sure a Harrison owner will pop up with one shortly. I know they cost money but the large flip top caps are as Cobra as the bodys (almost) IMHO |

The filler pipe I have(which was supplied from Warwick Harrison) was piece of rubber filler hose(genuine gm part), a piece of exhaust pipe with a bend(don't know the angle ) on the end and an unleaded insert to suit a holden fuel cap. http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...m/P2270671.JPG http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...m/P2270672.JPG These days an unleaded insert might not be required as you can't buy anything else. I read a post on another forum using silicon pipe for petrol filler hose. This fella cut a piece of the silicon hose and soak in a small amount petrol and after a couple of hours the silicon had expanded to twice the size. Warren |

I got the 50MM fuel hose locally and it fitted easily to the inset in the fuel filler that I got from Warwick. Can send a photo if that helps?

That looks a lot like VN Commodore filler pipe cut down. I'm using the Commodore fill pipe too but I've used a couple of bends welded in to rout it to the right spot. I'm having trouble sourcing a 30cm length of 2" fuel resistant rubber hose to join my fuel filler to the tank. Any suggestions would be most appreciated. Baz |
I measured the angle of the steel pipe and it was around 45 -50 degrees. The unleaded adaptor fitted in the end of the pipe and then tig welded.
Baz, A local spare parts store sells 2inch rubber filler pipe. It is part of the Auto One chain of auto part outlets, so if you have an Auto One store in your area or even Repco give them a try. The hose you require is called filler hose. One store tried to sell me fuel resistance hose. In the larger size hose it had a wall thickness of around 8mm and was extremly rigid. As we on the subject of rubber filler hose I am finding it difficult finding 1 1/2 inch filler hose. I am after suggetions for this as well. |

The black hose goes to the tank beside the filler and the red hose is the line that returns to the carbon canister. I used a pump from a V8 VZ ute. These pumps have a outlet and return, but no vent. Warren |

I had some hassle connecting the unleaded neck to the tank as well. There appeared to no concept of alignment at all. I dd start down the flexible rubber path and ended up with a short length of 2" marine exhaust tube that could handle the fuel but was about as flexible as 750mL bottle of VB. I persisted with it for a short while but ... eventually looked for an alternative. With no facilities to fabricate the connection myself, I made up a template (from 3/4" flatbar) for what I needed, sketched a diagram and had it made.
