Default LSX Firing Order

Can some one please explain
As a number of people point out the ford V8 especially a high reving 302 generates a great sound.
Why is it the LSX motors sounds so different. Is it the firing order and if so why do the GM LXS motors have a diffrent firing order. Does it generate more power.
The V10 Viper motor sounds terrible again why would they have done this.
I am a novice but a nice sound generally means the motor is running sweet and efficient.

The LSX has the same firing order as the 302 HO, so that's not a reason for the difference in sound. We experimented with 3 different firing orders on my outlaw dirt Late Model engines: the standard SBC order, the 4-7 swap and the 4-7/3-2 swap (a.k.a. the LSX/Ford firing order). Although cam companies made claims of increased power and smoother delivery, there was no difference in power on the dyno, nor any detectable difference in sound.

Hi Scott
Are you running a LSX engine in your outlaw.
You have 3 very nice pieces of machinary in your picture gallery. And they are all vastly different. Well done.

Bruce,

No LSX in the dirt car... but with Tony Stewart and Chevy working on development for Sprint Cars and dirt Late Models, there may be a future for the LSX on dirt. I did switch to an LS7 in the Cobra though. And thanks.

MSD make a module to run just the factory individual coil ignition setup. Perfect for guys wanting to run a carb on a 4 barrel manifold.

I'm tinkering with an MSD Pro-Mag 12LT at the moment. I'm building a drive to run it straight off the front of the cam on an LSX motor much like a pump drive for a methanol injection setup.

Dead simple and eliminates the need for individual coils, charging system, crank trigger or cam angle sensor. The MSD magneto has an electronic points box that takes care of the ignition advance etc. The 12 Amp magneto produces bigger fatter sparks than any traditional coil setup which you need for lighting methanol or nitromethane.

Cheers

im not a fan of msd stuff
just have not had a perfect run on them
i get lumped with fault finding faulty product even when customer supplied the unit
so these days i tell them if its fukt u pay more
anyway apart from that

for us its easier and prob not to much dearer to run facotry ls1 ecu and redo loom to just run the ignition side of things
and then run a carby
as the ls1 msd module for just running the ls1 coils is aorund 1200 bucks

we have run afew ls1s with std ecu just for igniton as there is much more tuning for the std ecu
we also have done ls1s with twin ecus
one runs factory stuff with big injecotrs
then 2nd ecu runs 2 set fo injectors
all which is lots of fun to play with
we want to look into making something to bolt on any v8 to run the ls1 ecu
its a big job but might be worth it in the end
****laods better than any aftermarket ecu out there
plus we now sell twin tune ls1 ecus

we have ls1 ecus with a small wire which u connect to a switch and ground the wire
this switches from one memory to the other memory in the ecu
so u can run a std tune or a perfoamce tune at a flick of a switch

That's pretty cool sideshow. Similar to the APR tune in my Golf GTI, where I can switch back to a "stock" program using the cruise control stalk and restart of the engine. Handy when it goes in for service or warranty claims (which it has more than once) or the old lady needs to drive it. Not that I'd want that in a Cobra!

just modify the back part fo it

Sideshow, they've actually wired the 'decel' button on the cruise into the ECU software so that when you hold it down for 3 secs the engine light flashes in a given sequence to show which program you're setting. Pretty fancy!
