Default Engine purchased, gearbox ordered

Hi all,

Just a quick update on my car.

I have purchased the engine, an LS3, and I have ordered a gearbox from Mal Wood. A TKO600 5 speed box. Now sorting the other bits that I need for the engine.

Car should be ready to collect from Warwick in a couple of weeks, and rear end is coming from Factory 5.

Colour has been decided, the same colour scheme as Eleanor, from the Movie 'Gone in 60 seconds'.

The fun has begun.

I went for the 5 speed gearbox so that gearing would be better and give me approx 2200 at 100kmph, so I can just squirt the throttle and I'm off, rather than having it sitting at 1600 and having to change gear in order to get it into it's sweet spot and coming on cam.

As for the factory 5 rear end, something different from things here and I can also run deeper dish wheels without too much dicking around in the Harrison. The rear end looks fantastic as well, nothing like a good rear end.

Hey TL, great stuff.

Should be a nice setup. What bell housing and throw out bearing is Mal supplying you?. What's your rear end ratio, the standard FFR 3.27?.

By the way, I'm running a TKO600 with .82 5th gear behind my L76 with a 3.31 jag rear end.

I think the factory Five comes as this .... Complete Rear Suspension: High-end 3-link deluxe rear suspension with new Ford Racing 8.8” rear solid axle/differential with posi-traction and 3.73 gears. Might have to check that 5th gear ratio .82 will give you about 44 mph at 2000 rpm you will need a .64 5th gear ration for around 2000 rpm at 60 mph.

With 3.73 rear with a .82 5th. will give 52mph at 2000rpm.

With 3.73 rear with a .64 5th. will give 66mph. at 2000rpm.

Both with 295/50/15 rear tyres at 26.61 diam.

Check out the "Cobra's" page on the Mal Woods site. He can but 5th gear ratios into a T56 ranging from 0.74 to 0.83. Is there some other reason you guys have gone with the TKO instead of the T56? Stronger, lighter or perhaps a better position for the shifter?

Sambo, in my case it was fitting the T56 into the RMC. Not so much the length but the bulbous rear end of the box. The RMC has a very narrow tunnel.

Besides...I already had the TKO600.

Warwick said that the diff ratio was 3.03, but that seems low. It will be changed to a 3.5 or thereabouts.

As for the bell housing and throw bearing, I'm not sure about that. I gave him the details and he came at me with what he would recomend for use in the Harrison. In speaking with Doug Pearce, I decided that I wouldn't worry about a 6 speed. I would like to get a 5 speed for my FJ40 with 350 Chev though!!!.

I have the .82 5th gear in the box, so when it arrives we will sort out the rear end from there. (3.5 or 3.7 ish)

I'm running 17" tyres as well (not sure on actual size yet), that may alter things slightly, but by a pooftenth in real terms.

Looking forward to getting car in wonderful white gel coat in a couple of weeks.

T.L., was there much work customising the Harrison chassis to accept the FF rear?

TL, the bellhousing that Mal sold me is a heap of $hit. Was really for a smaller flywheel and you also had to grind out a starter pocket. It was really a rework of the older chev bellhousing.

Checkout here for excellent bell housings. http://www.quicktimeinc.com/products.html

The Quicktime 6036 looks the ticket for you.

Default Diffs

T.L.

I would start looking for a 3.5/3.7 diff now, very hard to get.

I changed mine recently from a 3.9 to a 3.5 and it changed the car completely.......................

Best thing I have done so far..
