Default Finally the first coat of Duco is on.

It's been a long wait, but I'm happy with the way it's coming together. After another couple of coats, some Clear then Flow Coated and all the shiny bling put back on, it should come up pretty good.

Baz, Looks great mate. Just love the RMC shape.

But the wheels look a bit skinny.

Les,
Just between you and me, I'll let you in on a little secret. There only my "Push Around" wheels. I have a set of Pin Drive Vintage Knock Offs to go on shod with 255/45/17 Sumitomos front and tiny little 315/35/17 rears. Now don't tell any one. That's our little secret.

I like the wheels! Very vintage look with the patina.

Baz, just fantastic.

Can't wait to see the paint job finished. And once the wheels and jewery go on the outside, it will look even better.

Exciting times. Thanks for the photos.

I reckon Rebel 1 is right that the RMC shape is spot on. A friend of mine has one and I always admire the shape and the way it sits. Well done Baz, cant wait to see more pics as you go along, colour is turning out great.

Regards.

Baz, I dont know much about painting cars but if the car has only had its first coat of paint why has the plastic protection been removed and the car removed from the spraybooth?

Regards.

You don't know much about painting cars and I know about half of what you know. I asked him the same question yesterday Mando. Apparently he likes to give the first coat a few days to harden then he gives it a light going over with wet and dry before the final coat of colour goes on. Then we do the striping, then the clear then the flow coat.

That's what he's telling me, but he's told me so many lies over the last 10 weeks that I don't know what to believe.

He's only got the one spraybooth and has heaps of work so while my car is out, another one is in. My car certainly has no priority. He has to look after the Insurance jobs in preference to mine, as these are his bread and butter. He hasn't indicated that to me, but I think that's the real situation.

He's doing a magic job on my car so I dare not say anything to him at this stage. I'll let rip when I finally get it out of there.

Baz

Usually, all the paint goes on in one go...so each coat sticks to the last coat.
(2-pack) I remember, for custom jobs, that with acrylics the colour coat was allowed to dry overnight and sanded smooth to apply the clear coats later. ( acrylic dries to touch fairly fast but the solvents can take up to 30 days to fully evaporate) So if the paint is acrylic lacquer the time difference between coats is a little longer...as long as the painters' clean up and respray techniques are up to the mark there shouldn't be a problem.....Good luck. The paint looks good so far !

Thanks for the info Rob and thanks also to Rebel 1, Craig, Merv and Sharon, Macloft and Mando for your kind thoughts and comments. I think it looks great. Can't wait to get the shiny bits on and the bone Connolly Leather trim installed. Something really different and unique.

I'll post again as soon as the stripes go on. They will be a bit of a bugger to mask up as I have 2 x 5mm stripes on the outside edges, a 50mm wide stripe down the centre with another 2 x 5mm stripes, 5mm either side of the centre stripe, all tapering 25mm wider to the centre of the car from the front and rear. They will be done in special effects metallic silver/grey colour.

Baz

Bone Connolly Leather trim hey Baz.

Do you think some might mistake it for a Kings Cross pimp mobile?.

If so, give me a call, I'll do all the recruiting.

Only kidding.

At least it will be cooler to sit on than black.

Here's the seats and dash. Do you reckon it's too camp? If so I'll have them re-done.

Doc,

I know it sounds a bit complicated, but a picture is worth a thousand words.
This is what the stripes will look like, hopefully,

Baz, I'm actually thinking of a slightly lighter tan.

Nothing wrong with Tan Baz,

It's just a State thing.

Could be very patriotic to have a maroon car with maroon seats?
