Default Fitting XF Reverse Light

Hi Fellas
Merv or Geoff, I'm awaiting a set of reverse lenses from an XF to install in the rear of my car.
I haven't seen these in the flesh yet, coming via post. I asked the guy to chop them out of the whole cluster to minimise freight and I'm now wondering if I need the lamps.
Can you tell me if you use the original lamps from the ford or have you had to find illumination from somewhere else. If so what did you use?
Thanks
Greg

Hi Greg. I got the Falcon rear light modules at a garage sale for 20 cents and only used the actual clear lenses. I still have the outer frame as a template if you need that at any time. Cut the body holes from that and smooth/shape with a Dremmel (as did Mick Schipper). The lights are Repco 21W normal ADR compliant ones (their round lenses removed) mounted in the trunk space behind the fuel tank and thus shine thru the Falcon lenses attached to the body. Does that make sense?

So the only part you absolutely need is the Falcon lens/es. If you need the 'frame' around them as template before cutting (good idea!) - let me know and I can post them to you.

Thanks Merv

I've got the lenses coming still enclosed in the 'frame' I think.

What are the Repco lights out of, it may make it easier to order them.

Did you glue the light body to the Falcon lenses, how many lights did you need to cover all 4?

Thanks for the help.

I read that you're in for a long wait for Qld Transport to complete paperwork....how frustrating. I'm about 3/4 through doing my wiring, so time consuming, but fun. I've got a local sparky mentoring me who's being very patient!

Thinking about paint at the moment, maybe another silver Harrison, a bit paler than yours with white stripes

Greg

Greg,

They are just the standard round reversing light that you can get at Repco - maybe they are a Narva. Probably for a trailer. At least 21W for ADR. They are mounted/screwed on to the black chassis rail in the pic below and with or without their lenses, they give off a lot of light through the Falcon lens that you have fitted from the inside of the holes cut in the body (e.g., with Sikaflex). I used two lights, one behind each lens. That way the only thing on the body is the Falcon lens.

Good luck with the wiring. I needed a lot of help but I do now fully understand my system and can adjust/adapt things as needed.

Merv

No worries Greg. You will need to cut the lenses out with a Dremmel or similar and leave a flange of plastic around them for attaching to the inner fibreglass.
