Yep odd and seems wrong but that is how BDR in their infinite wisdom designed them.
Put it on a two post lift and watch how much travel is in the struts as well....

It may be normal for a BD but that sure is a pizz poor design. If you "catch air", be prepared to crash upon landing.

I use nylon ties to strap the spring to the coil over hat, then when you drop it back down everything slips nicely back into place without any problems.
