Default Whoooaaa Nelly!!!

Got quite the thrill last night. I was merging onto the interstate and continued to accelerate hard after shifting from 3rd to 4th. I let off the throttle but nothing happened; throttle was stuck wide open in 4th gear. I instinctively reached for the key on the steering column but, of course, it wasn't there which brought the pucker factor up a little higher since traffic in front of me was not moving anywhere near as fast as I was even though my foot was hard on the brakes. After gathering my wits and shutting off the ignition, I aimed for the shoulder and brought the car to a stop. A brief inspection revealed a frayed throttle cable at the pedal. A tow truck and $165.00 later (why didn't I keep AAA?), my car was back in the garage. Removing the throttle cable this morning was an adventure in contortionism but I did discover the reason why the cable frayed; the tab the throttle cable mounts to under the dash is not in line with the mount on the accelerator pedal. This causes the cable to bend at a sharp angle as it leaves the end of the cable assembly. There doesn't appear to be any way of adjusting the tab and since it appears to be only mounted to fiberglass, I don't want to attempt to bend it. Any suggestions?
