E66, that puppy looks pretty stout! I'd feel better on the track with that than what I have now. What is your constructed from?

The discussion of 0, 1 or 2 roll bars is not complete without the accompanying discussion of 0 1 or 2 shoulder harnesses, and if not 0, where to attach them. It's been covered so many times and the conclusion is the same: Personal Preference and Assumed Risk.

If it means anything and I had to guess... roughly 20-25% get dual rollbars from us.

That should have been the first only response to this thread.

At least now we know that only 20-25% of the BDR buyers love their wives, children, friends, fellow hobbyists and acquaintances.

The remaining majority have a suicide pact with their passengers.

I think you should read "The Structure of Stichomythia in Attic Tragedy" by Sir John Myres. It would help you cleanse the rubbish from your cluttered mind that is obviously weighing you down.

It's 3183, as in CSX 3183, not 3138. So, you enjoy being heckled, how does that feel?

I think this was the best response on the thread so far.

If you want to go full width or double or single but are concerned about blunt force trauma to the head then get high back seats. Nothing wrong with a pair of Kirkey seats in these imitation race cars with license plates.

That's a nice thing to say. FFR,Shell Valley, CMC, All can be great cars just depends on who is building them. Even if they are built by some one that dose not have very much experience they still put alot of work into there COBRA and should/can be very proud of their car.

This entire discussuion is pretty lame ,...one roll bar, two roll bars, safe/safer, being nice to passenger/screw passenger, what other people think or don't think.....Geeeeez!
If it's so important to be authentic/original...save your money and buy a million dollar real Shelby, that's if you can find one for sale.

I watched an old guy roll an old time Sprint Car (*****in looking but no roll bar), broke his neck, maybe an add-on cage might of helped, but it really looked cool with no roll bar.
I got two roll bars, nobody cares.

A friend of mine rolled his cobra and the single bar he had at the time saved his life..
He rebuilt the car and then added the second roll bar !!!
Thankfully his wife was not in the car at the time of the accident..
I was building mine at the time.. When I saw his car it took absolutely no convincing to add the second bar to mine.
You never know !!
But for me if someone was killed or injured because they were'nt afforded the same protection as I have, I don't see it as an option.
IMHO when it comes to the look who cares what anyone else thinks !!

Okay, here's a BDR guy with an opinion, but I am not sure this is really a BDR specific question (I understand it was asked in that context); it is really a larger ClubCobra question. I think Tom nailed it:
"Spouse rides along = yes
Instructor rides along on track days = yes
Max safety on track days = yes
Esthetics and none of the above = no"

I only have one hoop and while I have had passengers concerned about the lack of hoop and have not been able to have instructors ride along etc... those are occasional inconveniences. I only track it a few times a year but I would have to look at the second hoop every time I looked at the car and it was not worth the tradeoff - I just don't like the way it looks...

They are 2 passenger cars and should have a roll bar across the car protecting both positions--not 2 separate roll bars, but a roll bar the width of the car----

The single roll bars are more dangerous to a unhelmuted head not properly restrained by harness/arm restraints, in normal day to day driving than a non-rollbar car on a race track

The %chances of blunt force head trauma per mile are unacceptable, yet the Cobra community and insurance people look the other way----

And all this is about whether one or two roll bars look the best???

It's really a perceived image or safety issue. If you drive with a passenger often, its a good idea. If you track the car often a minimum of one will be required, 2 if you take an instructor or passenger. If you're by yourself most of the time it's you call. They didn't originally have them but they make the car look racey so they are considered necessary by most as we all see ourselves as a faux Ken Miles when we get behind the wheel.

Yep, how about the guy in Florida two years ago that slid his Cobra in to the curb in front of the country club at around 25MPH. Little damage to the car, but he had an upadded roll bar, and his head smacked in to it at the same 25MPH. BFT with life threatening injuries. His wife's side did not have a roll bar, so no BFT for her... but no shoulder protection either, so she got a face-whack by the dash (not life threatening, but painful). Of course, we don't talk about it -- unpadded roll bars look "cooler" to some, as do MRIs of the brain.
