I went out and re-cleaned the air bleeds and reseated the idle screws and problem was still there. I did notice the gas gauge was real low like barley moved so I went to the gas station with a gas can and dumped it in and to my surprise the problem was gone. coincidence or just junk at the bottom of the tank. If it was junk why would it run better at higher rpm? Anyway I just like to report the finding and not leave a trouble ticket open.

Started her up to head out for gas and bang problem is back from start up? Now I'm really confused it was just running great a few minutes ago. Does anyone know the gas filter Part number since that's probably the next thing to attack.

I just love reading all of these ideas...jets, rusty timing advance, dirt, air bleeds.. I think... maybe...could be You know if you replace enough parts and spend enough time and money you just might fix it.
If you don't know what you are doing why don't you just take it somewhere like the man said?

Had this problem with mine also. Ran fine above 3 grand but idled or flooded the car out below 3. I have a Quickfuel 780 CFM. My sight glass would be at half for both Primary and secondary but after driving the car, the primary would overflow.
My problem was a piece if trash in the needle and seat. Not sure where it came from but got thrown into the carb. Removed said obstruction and runs fine.
However, I did take it to a good carb guy and had him go over it and tune it out. Runs like a champ.

Said trash in needle and seat. Everything else was clean.

I believe it's the idle circuit since it's only kept running at low RPM with pedal pump which means it's starving for gas. When it switches from the Idle circuit to the main jets at 2200 rpm it runs fine. This eliminated any fuel delivery problems and really points toward the metering block. I'll post my final fix when complete.

and that pic is the poster child for why you don't use teflon tape on fuel system fittings.....

I am sure that your intentions were good...

Thought about this for a couple of days, who really uses teflon tape with AN fittings? Are you sure that is teflon tape in the photo? Even if you have a pipe fitting somewhere, the part you wrap with teflon never even comes into contact with fuel flow. Telflon tape is great for it's intended purpose even around a fuel system...like most problems with a car, they are self-inflicted wounds if they happen.

In all of my days, I have never had a clogged fuel filter, hung needle and seat or any of the other things you hear about here.

Well it ended up being the primary metering block was full of junk which looked like the finish of the metal was delaminating and pitting. I also found a cracked secondary float that needed to be changed.

good deal....does it run ok now?


BTW, if you use AN yes...but somewhere on a fuel pump or filter, there will be an AN to NPT adapter fitting...in which you will have to seal.....
as you screw in a NPT shards of tape do get peeled off and migrate into the fuel 9 times out of 10 they just pass through and get caught by a filter
but when they get caught some where bad it can be a drivability burden to diagnose.

She runs great again, The stuff in the metering block was similar to the white stuff the deposits on concrete. I'll try and post a picture if i can.
