Default Fuse Block Issues

I purchased a Backdraft Cobra earlier this year and have had several issues with loose and/or corroded fuses. It appears one issue is should you get caught in the rain water drips down onto the fuse block. In addition the fuse blocks appear to be of less than top quality, The fuse clips have lost tension and then there is heat. Once this happens the fuse clips lose their utensil strength and while they can be bent back, this is less than an acceptable repair.

Has anyone experienced this issue?
Is there a better fuse block to utilize when replacing the existing fuse blocks?

While I understand space in the Cobra is limited this is one awkward location to place fuses and relays and to work in this location for more than a few minutes is a pain.

What year/number is your backdraft? The fuseblock in my car is basically a generic piece that works well. I don't see how water could really drip down.

Brian,

I currently own Backdraft #1360 and I formerly owned Backdraft #101. I had a few loose fuse clips in my first Backdraft. However, after pinching the clips, I had no recurring problems for the seven years I owned the vehicle. I have had no such fuse panel problems with my new Backdraft. I live in Arizona and have never driven my cars in the rain. I am a mechanical design engineer and I have inspected my car for potential water leakage to the fuse panel. The design looks pretty good to me. Perhaps you or a previous owner has modified the windshield bracket, the firewall, the hood, the wheel well or the floor panel that may be causing your water problem. I would check with Reg at the Backdraft home office in Boynton, Florida regarding your fuse panel problems. If similar problems have occurred in other Backdrafts, he would know and most likely could recommend a proper fix.

I second contacting Reg...not only because he is the Man, but living in Florida means you will get caught in a pop up 20 minute rain at some point in your life no matter what the weatherman says.
