Have it rebuilt. The diodes, brushes, etc. are not only cheap, but they're pretty easy to replace. A rebuild will cost you about fifty bucks, or less, and your alternator is guaranteed to fit right back in.

If my alternator went out tomorrow I wouldn't even think of replacing it with a new one.
