MSD 6AL Problems?
Still new to Cobra's, but I'm learning, thanks to this forum. I have a 2010 BDR with a Roush small block 427R complete with MSD everything. The ignition box is a 6AL.
Ever since I bought this car last December, it's hard to start, idle's really rough,
and snorts and farts when I half way get on it. I figured since the car only had 300 miles that the carb was maybe gummed up. Today, I drove the car for a hour or so and when I stop to get something to eat the dang car wouldn't start.
It would turn over, but it acted like there was no spark. I disabled the ignition box by pulling the fuses. The car fired right up and actually idled smother and ran a lot better. Is it necessary to have a box?? Is this a common problem with MSD?

Unfortunately for MSD, very common.
I don't run MSD anymore.
Visit the MSD website and forums for more answers.

If it is the box, MSD will fix anything wrong with it for about $50...easier than buying a new box! Check with msd.
btw, they can have a problem with sparking when even slightly warm, when they cool down things are just fine.

One time MSD did not charge us to repair one. Next time it was $18, another time $80 which was the max they charged at that time.

OK..........My inexperience is showing here. Hopefully someone will help me out here. My MSD ignition box 6420 with rev limiter is mounted under the dash. I followed one of the wiring harness down to 2 inline fuses . I removed the fuses. I swear the car runs alot better. Is this possible?

I doubt whether the fuses you have removed are anything to do with the 6AL system.
The ignition system would not function without 12v on the small red wire.
Same for either of the heavy red or black wires.
Does something else not work now?

I looked at the install manual and see no mention of fuses on any of the MSD box wires.... The installer may have used them but not part of the kit.

MSD SS Blaster and MSD distributor, not sure what part # is and a MSD 6al 6420 box thats mounted under the dash on passenger side . Looks like the fuse holders were spliced in. Now I'm beginning to doubt the fuses were for the MSD box. What the hell.... I'm getting flustered on this.
Thank you for ur help

Welcome to the world of automotive electronics. Nothing can be more frustrating than trying to track down an electrical problem MSD's can be temperamental. It could be a sporadic condition. Pulling the fuses might have had nothing to do with fixing the problem, they just happened to occur in sequence and were not related at all.
You might also want to check connections along the way to look for loose wires or a possible short. You say that you removed two fuses from what appeared to be wired into the MSD box and then it ran better. You might want to trace down these wires and see where they go. Somebody might have spliced something into the MSD for a power source and that may be what was causing the problem. You might also have wires that have worn insulation that are touching each other or grounding to something. It will be frustrating, take your time and get familiar with electronic testing equipment. Good luck.

I would check the MSD coil. I had one go bad and it would start but wouldn't idle for nothing. Changed the coil and runs great.
