turn signal replacement

I notice on backdraft part store they are out of stock on turn signals.
I have number car #84 can some one tell me were i might find a replacement one
that will fit my car. the one that came with the car has alway given me problems i have had it off 3 to 4 times to fix it , it just not that well made.

Ed: It is a VW beetle turn signal unit, from about 1964 if I remember correctly. It will need a little grinding on the inner surface to fit over the steering column. I think there are some threads on this subject in the BDR forum that have all the details.

Try to search on partsgeek. I tried to post a link, but it somehow gets hijacked.

Get the German made one. Unfortunately, the cheaper ones are garbage. I know from experience! You will have to cut the plug off the BDR one and splice it on the new one, but the wires should be the same color (at least they were on the cheap version). A Dremel works well for the grinding that Sledge mentioned. Good time to turn it around to the left side too.

My left turn signal doesn't self-cancel but it seems to help me remember that the lever is on the right side after a week or so of not driving the car. Just eyeballing the possibility of swapping it to the.left, I think that it would interfere with fitting the tonneau cover which I have used quite a bit. Also, I had to get "technical support" to find the high beam headlight switch hidden in the lever.

You should be able to level the stalk with the dash (in resting position), so the tonneau will fit. The issue for me is keeping it there. It only stays tight for a while before it wants to start spinning. Put a small dimple in the tube with a drill for the set screw to seat it in, or there is a thread here about spinning the whole column here:

There should be a small threaded rod in back of the steering wheel that can be adjusted out slightly to fix your self cancelling issue.
