Mine is different.
Sticks on center, doesn’t want to move.
Then snaps free and is smooth
Equally both directions.

To answer OP, disconnect at end of steering column in the Engine bay.
Then I could tell it was the u-joints and not the other parts.

Have the replacement from BDR have not installed
