Why would Backdraft use plastic?
In my mind it just cheapens the product.

Agreed. The new rings arrived and I have to say, the metal rings look much better, mostly because there is a slight difference in the profile of the ring, The taper down to the headlight from the body is more fluid. Much smoother line.
