Default New member with new Backdraft

Just wanted to say high. I just bought my Backdraft in Monterey Red a coupe weeks ago. Build #2155. I'm over the moon with the car. Unfortunately at 600 miles, just after the first inspection and oil change it puked it's engine. Bearings in the oil pain, a damaged cam and a collapsed lifter. It's a Ford crate motor so hopefully Ford steps up with a new motor. Wish me luck. Looking forward to many years of driving it.

Hello 355spider and welcome to the forum.

Sorry to hear of the motor issue. Is the motor an Iconic 427, i.e. the Dart SHP 351W Block?

Gus

Are you the same fellow who posted the pics on the Backdraft Boyz Facebook page?

Don't feel bad, you got twice as much as I did. Mine puked after 300 due to builder error not mine but something that I missed in my shakedown. Welcome to the madness, but its worth it when you get up and running.

Hey 355Spider.

Yours is a Ford Racing crate motor right? What did they say when you contacted them about the problem?

I do not get it I have beat the crap out of 302s 390s and the 427 and never once had a engine failure. mostly they were in trucks. Are truck motors different? ops and both 351w and the Cleveland. Been driving fords sense the 70s. wait a minute I just remembered I blew up a 351 Windsor in a sand drag in Idaho but that could have been due to neglect.

It's being sent back to Backdraft as we speak. Hopefully Ford will come through with a new motor and they'll install it.

I'm sure they'll have to, plus you've got the volume if business Backdraft does with them that they'll want to take care of this problem quickly! You know it's in good hands right now.

As a side note Keep us posted as to whether Ford or Backdraft pays for shipping, labor etc.

The dealer is splitting the cost of shipping with me and backdraft is paying for labor.

There wasn't anything wrong with the installation of the motor. It was the motor itself that failed.
