Default Fuel Level Sender

It works!
As we all know, the fuel level sender is not that great. It's OK, and it works; in it's own way. But we all know it could be better.
A couple of weeks ago, someone posted on the FB group about this new Holley IR sender. Looked like the perfect thing, so I ordered one from Summit Racing. They said it was B/O until the end of May, But I received it in about a week.
Installation is pretty straight forward. It only took me about an hour. The stock sending unit has two wires - ground and gauge. The new one also needs power. I pulled that from the electric fuel pump next door.
I cut the pigtail off the original sender, and used that for the new one. Made it a simple plug in.
The bolt pattern is an exact match, and uses the same thread pitch for the new longer screws.
I still need to mess with the calibration a bit, but it works prefectly. Nice a smooth, appears to be pretty accurate. We'll see how it goes on the next road trip. 🙂
At some point, I want to change the gauges to something better. All I will need to do is recalibrate the sender.
I'm pretty happy about this. 🙂

No fair. I always thought the mental calibration process for the fuel gauge was part of the Cobra fraternity hazing.

Thanks for being the test case, Bob.

I had been looking at that sender for a couple of weeks now, mired in indecision. When you did your gauge calibration, were you calibrating for Nisonger/Smith gauges or some other gauge?

Thx,

Will these sender units be a direct/ easy fit to the plastic fuel tanks?

IDK. I've never seen a plastic tank. I don't know what the sender looks like for those. If it has 5 screws holding it in place, it is probably the same bolt pattern.

Looks like it should work. I would buy it, and then if it doesn't fit you can return it.

Bob, I see you have an access panel in the trunk floor to get to the pump. Mine doesn't. Did that come stock with the car, or did you retrofit it? Maybe the year of the vehicle has something to do with it? Mine is either a 2011 or 2012. Thanks.

The access panel was installed at the factory. My car is a 2016.
