Hey Tom! Long time no see.

Glad you saw this thread as I sent Pilot Guy an email last night suggesting that he contact you as his situation sounded similar to yours.

pliot guy,
I knew the title was wrong. It sounded wrong, looked wrong, smelled wrong. My car was not a 64 ford. It is a replica, a kit car, a SPCN (Special Construction). Everyone with a Cobra replica wants to call their's a 196x Cobra. Can't do that in CA. So along came SB100. I registered my car a SPCN and also call it a 1965 Cobra (body stile) with the BAR. That allows me to not have any smog equipment. I am now legally registered, can sell my car legally, and sleep at night. You can make all the arguments you want but thats the way is is in CA.

Doug,
Yea, it's been awhile. Still lurking and tuning. Thinking of doing a breakfast run soon.

Because the DMV doesn't know what its talking about. There was someone here that the DMV said he had an SB-100 (his car sticker did not say SB-100 on it). But then he got a smog inspection notice in the mail. That simply isn't possible. So he went and got an SB-100 and he now has no issues.

It clear from some past threads that the DMV has people comb through registrations looking for problems. The best guarantee that the DMV won't suddenly find an issue with your registration is to get an SB-100. It's easy to do, it costs nothing and it can save you a lot of trouble down the road. So if you have an out of state car, it is prudent to get the SB-100.

Paul F.

That was me. Mine was not registered as a 66 or what-ever though. It was legal through the DMV as a 0000SPCN but they never sent in a smog notice.

I sent a PM to the OP and left him my number but he did not call. Was the long weekend and all though.
