Default ALL - Roll Bars

P.J.,J.A., & Roll Bar Orderers,

Sorry, a little past daylight. Fellas what we have here is a special order of DOM .120, 2" roll bar material. More than enough than I need to fill all your orders.
But, always a "But" when it comes to Cobras I had to order the special material, plus one size smaller to mount the "Down Bars" to. That one piece took extra time and still didn't come in right! Nothing I can't fix with a Lathe though.

But, again with the Butt. In my haste to try and get caught up I put the first bend on an unknowing bind. (A 10 Ton Ram doesn't really notice a minor Bind!)
Ultimately I destroyed one end of my "Follower" and chipped the other end.

Soo, I have ordered the parts ASAP and I will start to bend.....a little slower this time until I have them all done.

I am sorry for the delay.

DV

Gee Whiz Ed, how much would you charge to make me some SS side pipes?

That bender looks impressive.

Ed

with that bender--get or make up some extra pieces because you are pushing over the capicity for 2 in steel tubing and the followers are too thin and will break again. Compare them to the other side and you will see how they are not as strong.

Jerry,
This Bender is made for these tubes and then some. Now it doesn't really like the thick wall (Top photo) but the thin tube bends like a straw. If I can I'll have the Mrs. take a short video of the "J.D." Bender bending a full hoop when I get the parts in!

OK ED---look where your part broke--it is the thinnest place in the piece--wonder why it broke there????? My bender uses much more robust tooling and a 27 ton ram for bending roll bars size tube

DV,
no worries here. I'm still trying to get the latch to fit on my passenger side door properly. Looks like the metal braket that attaches to the frame is too long and wont mount to the latch properly. Also, the door sticker isn't going into the latch as nice as I would like....so..... got some mods to do.

DV,

Looks like you just need to make the bend longer and then cut it off after. Unless you just missed the stop and thought you were where you wanted to be.

I have NEVER done that before. Yea right, HEHEHEHE.
Makes for one of them #$&*#$@^% (darn) moments.

Ed,

Just wondered if you have the tools repaired now and if you can tell me when the roll bars might be ready?

DV,

When you get that part in you should draw up a sketch so you can have them made if it breaks again. You could probably have them made faster then ordering them through the MFG.

Jc...
Amazing offer.
62 yrs old and just about all my finger nails are gone.
Actually I was told it was going to be sent this week OR THEY would call me with a delivery date. (This is so unlike this company! Usually I call and before I hang up the phone "it's" here! I blew up the hydraulic pump last year, sent it in to be fixed...they replaced it completely and had it back within a week!

FRUSTRATION RUNS DEEP IN THIS FAMILY!

I called J.D. (MFG) today asking WHERE / WHEN? Much apology's but it seems the part that I have managed to destroy has a lot of company. As a matter of fact they have NOW totally re-designed this part. Actually, thank goodness they started this weeks ago and they thought it would have been done and "out" long before now.

Bottom line, it is done (The new model/version) is done and they are filling all back orders! They assured me, because of the weekend coming up Wednesday at the latest, but it could be as early as Monday.

Here's hoping. Guys, I do not know if a small learning curve will be required, but at any rate I will get them made as quickly as I can. "Asking me when" is a effort in futility. They will be done as quickly as humanly possible!

MY APOLOGY'S TO ALL!

Default Roll Bars

Ed,

It's been ten weeks and when I first sent the money on June 26th, all in advance of course, you had assured me 2-3 weeks. I'm not sure I understand the last post. You say they're inventing a "new, redisigned part", but why didn't they tell you that 3-4 weeks ago when you originally ordered the replacement? I know you advised that asking for ETA would be an excercise in futulity, but really, I think I really deserve to know when the roll bars will be completed.

Patrick,
Yes you do, but I thought I answered the questions that would surely rise as well as possible. They would have assured me of the new "machining" when I called, but as they said; the new piece was already supposed to be in the works and would have been shipped to me in just a couple of extra needed days. I don't know what there supplier told them, or what the problem was in making the new piece. I can think of dozens of reasons why it took so long.

Lack of special steel, lack of something as simple as having the engineering plans finalized, machining work, CAD machine needing repair, who knows this is all a guess on my part, but the part is here!

PROBLEM NOW IS: Since I had to wait so long for the part to get here I had to go on with my working schedule. I wont lie or tell some "whopper" to try and buy time. I have CptEddie bringing his car in to be completely finished in a few weeks, I'm organizing a build (Donation wise for "767Jockey", (He has Cancer and can't finish his car-see main page), My son is getting married next weekend and for a wedding present I am rebuilding a 23' Carver Boat and trailer for his present, I had to have my Ford Master Tech come in here all week, pulled my wifes motor out of her Mountaineer all wheel drive and put a new motor in. (You can't begin to know what an experience this is unless you have done it!) Bobby-Mich. Tech said this was his first Mountaineer transplant & his last one! (Finished that project last night around midnight!)

And like so many of the Special Cobra specialist (If you allow me to put myself in that class?) I now work alone, no more 5 to 7 man crew to help out.

If you read this while thread was new you will see that I had to wait a short time for the OEM DOM Steel to come in which it has and setting here waiting to be transformed.

The Boat/Trailer is within days of being finished, the Mountaineer went out of here last night, the wedding will finally be done shortly and I will be able to finally devote full time on the Bars! I know some guys are actually being held up by not having the bars and this really is a lousy situation, but all I can say is that I am working as fast as I can and a 4AM start time with a 6PM or later finish time-7 days a week is about all I can handle anymore.

I truly feel sorry for the serious delay, been there hundreds of time over the years and I sure didn't like it either! I will get on these and finish them as soon as possible, but, I will not take any short cuts in my quality.

I had hoped NEVER to be part of the problem, but to be a part of the solution!

Thanks for listening and everyones tolerance to a busy and unexpected delay.

PS....Patrick, I know, I remember the Hell you have gone through trying to get your Cobra done, first Don, then....Terry, now Terry is allegedly being held up for the roll bars? Not much to go on but I WILL get your bars done as soon as possible. I am truly sorry that I have been contributing to your Delays!

DV
