I've never tried the tubulars w/o the coil overs and vice versa.

I compare the ride and handling to truly driving a boat vs. a ski-doo! Or, how about a Ford Esquire Station Wagon, loaded with kids, family and camping equipment on the roof, to a well oiled 10-speed bycycle.

Of course that's just my opinion!
