Mike,
Since I did not want a cosmetic roll bar, i welded an angle bracket to the side of the frame. On top of the angle bracket, i welded a 2" tall section of thick steel tubing, that fits inside the roll bar down leg. The downleg fits over the tubing, with a bolt through both to hold it in place.
