3/32"s of an inch is all we needed or was all that it was taking to ground out! Had the 'socket' been turned left or right that much it would have missed the plate that I had to weld in for the column support!
Moving the plate AND putting a whole new 'Hi-Beam indicator light assembly in place-with clearance.

Motorcity,
ding,ding DING!
Well done!
When I installed the dash the center dash light or "hi-beam indicator" spade, even though insulated with heat-shrink came into contact with the bottom portion of the cowl bar! Ground was severe enough to blow the bulb! 3/32's of an inch in either direction the spade would have missed! At least for now.
Every car I have ever made always had at least one Gremlin" but this one took the cake!
DV,
When you get a chance could you post up some pictures of the way you attached capteddies door handles and cables including pictures of how you attached them to the bear claw latch?

Bear with me on this one-first attempt at posting pics with the Mac.
The first picture is an unmodified handle, the second one is the handle ready to install. I modified the bracket, making a much narrower plate. To install it in the car I cut out a little shorter hole than the bracket, slid the bracket inside the glass, then drilled and pop riveted from the outside- resulting in an almost seamless install.( only the rivet heads show-to be covered by the carpeting.
I attached both ends of the cable by looping the cable through the handle hole one one end and the other end was looped through the bear claw release. Both loops were rigidly attached by crimping normal hardware pinch-lugs ( for the lack of the proper description ?) They are mounted where the book normally mounts the bicycle handles, just a little bit forward.
How did you mount the cable sheath in the door jam to keep it from moving when pulling the handle. Is there a special bracket? I have tried using cable ties and the sheath just pulls right through it.
I even tried using pliers to pull the cable tie and it just snaps right off before it gets tight enough on the sheath.

Ooops!
forgot about that part........ on the backside of the BRACKET..NOT THE handle I welded a small washer that would let the cable through but not the sheath. In the car already or I post a picture of that-sorry!

Well OK... a little update. Its been pretty quite on the build thread. DV and I have been sticking mostly to email and phone calls while we bolt down the home stretch to get the car done and on the road. We've had a fair amount of last minute gremlins that had to be chased down. Some pretty nasty electrical issues and a fuel delivery issue. All those seem to have been put out of their misery!!!
Now we're waiting on a 4 wheel laser alignment. Only problem is the alignment shop is booked till next Tuesday 8/25. So DV is wrapping everything else up before then. A 4 wheel laser alignment is scheduled for first thing Tuesday. Then the car is off to the upholsters so they can start the carpet install first thing on the 26th. If everything goes as scheduled, I'll pick the car up from them on Saturday the 29th and get it back in DVs shop for the last pieces to go back in. The seats, harnesses and the roll bar.
There is definitely light at the end of the tunnel, but I'm not going to get to excited until I'm in the car and driving.
Here's a check list that DV completed the other day...
PRE-DELIVERY CHECKS
20 Minute RUN: Engine timing reduced by approximately 1.5 degrees-starts immediately without dragging the starter system.

• Engine compartment oil pressure gauge (mechanical): OK
• Oil temperature gauge:-OK

That last Gremlin refuses to die!
I had a brand new matching blue light in stock, cut the old one out, which of course didn't leave enough wiring to do a new job, extended the wiring, wired in the new light.
Turned on the Hi-Beams..... they worked...... but...... NO Indicator light!
I've never had one of these lights go bad let alone a brand new one! After testing and still no luck- a mad dash back to our supplier- New light will be in at 7AM........Oh-Well...........

OK... Back from another run to DVs place. Making progress. Had another gremlin pop up while I was there. Pin hole leak in the radiator. I've been told its been squashed already
Car will be getting its 4 wheel laser alignment done Tuesday morning ( careful on the go peddle DV ) Then the car is going to Bakker's to get the carpeting finally done.
Here's a couple quick pics...
Here's the back up mechanical oil pressure gauge DV installed to give us a some piece of mind, since the electrical one in the dash is waiting on a new sending unit.
DV hung the passenger door. Check the fit. He hasn't even fine tuned the seams yet, just loosely bolted it in.
Another one of the passenger door.
And one more...
Well we just had to fire her up again!!!

Mine are made of plastic and were painted the same color. It is a slight destraction from the finish but, imo, worth the trouble. That rear fender front catches lots of gravel.

Mine are black plastic and came with the kit. They have been on for 22k miles
and still look like new - no coming off anywhere. My paint is a dark green
so they don't stand out. I have been driving it for nine years. Well worth the
extra $ and work to protect the paint.
