http://www.autogeek.net/index.html, This is a good place for a novice to start.
If you buy one heck buy two! If you buy two of course you will have an extra one. :3DSMILE: Hmmm, might as well get rid of one of them! %/ As long as you are there, try this one; "Porter Cable" should out live your "Grandchildren"! http://www.autogeek.net/index.html Variable speed very important especially for a "newbie" to buffing/polishing. Orbital must be a good thing although I have never used one the idea is "right on!" Which ever buffer/Polisher you go with start with the softest pad you have, then work up to real cloth/wool.(You should never have to use a wool pad on the "queen" or what ever you have named "the" beast! (Buttt...... if you can't resist the temptation, go ahead... I can fix the burn throughs! :) ) Now to active points, do you and Me a favor (Never did get to see her in the daylight!) either make a written record of ALL spots that I may have missed or need more "buffing attention", or you can do as I do at this point, just tear off small pieces of masking tape and place them on the spots that need more attention. The area on the left side of the hood, almost to the frontal edge at the stripe edge, the one I pointed out to you with remnants of the "razor blade scraping lines"- please leave them if they don't bother you! I want to see how much if any "shrinkage occurs over the winter! PM coming with some info...... DV |
HEY!
Just struck home, (pg 74) "Well DV. The dash really needs to be reworked and I've found a few missed spots of undercoating and un-buffed areas ???? A new undercoating gun and product, two cans of rubberized undercoating and I missed places!? Missed final buffing on a few spots doesn't surprise me, especially since we never got it out into the daylight, but Undercoating? Dammmmm DV |
Its not that the undercoating is missing in spots. Its there are some spots (a couple the size of a dime) of undercoating that is on the body.

Ah-HA! Now that doesn't surprise me. The new "stuff" as mentioned earlier went every where!
OK, try and use a little fingernail pressure, it might just pop off. You wont damage the paint, unless you use a screwdriver! If that doesn't do it bring out the Ol' WD-40. Give it coat / shot and let it soak in, again no paint damage, after a few minutes it should loosen/soften up where a terry cloth towel should take it off! Now is a good time/place to use that new polisher! :o DV |
Cpt...
PM's? Sent you three-PM's - no answer? Maybe my PM's aren't working!? Anyway, found another of Cpteddies parts! That special trailer hitch locking mechanism for your trailer was/is in my truck- on the floor! Took it off so we could move your trailer around to the door and forgot to put it back in your truck! Ooops! DV |

Been busy in the garage making a list of things that need to be addressed/fixed or redone  I guess this is where the hobby part of this comes into play. I got the car so she'll start pretty reliably, but she is not idling well and I still have the problem with the tranny not shifting out of first. I'm on the calendar for the first of December to get the car on the chassis dyno and my engine guys will get all the engine/tranny problems fixed :3DSMILE: Then unfortunately, it will probably be time to winterize the car and put it away till spring :( |
A list! UH-OH.........
But as it should be............ DV (Wondered why she lost idle!? I know her vacuum leak was sealed! I thought the hotter plugs ended or would have ended the starting problems too.) |
OK DV....
Got the car out in the nice sunshine and started to clean off some of the buffing compound that got missed during the last bath. Making notes of all the missed spots. The whole drivers side rear fender down the side looks like it got missed. Looks pretty dull. Is that something I can buff out with "Race Glaze"? Also what can I use to get the dried compound off the rims? Power washing doesn't even faze it and I'm not using my power washer, but one at the local car wash. Looks like I'm going to end up replacing a lot of stuff that just won't clean up. There is some black overspray on the radiator :( and whatever the black stuff is on the plug wires looks like it is there to stay also %/ |
Ed,
Hot water and liquid soap will take off the left over compound-might have to soak a little. Black stuff??? Hmm, if wd-40 wont touch it - is it paint? Wondering if maybe "BAKKERS" didn't spry something under the hood, for what ever reason-when they cut out the wiring , or Mears when they were trying to get it to run :( ? Buffing/Polishing the ENTIRE car outside would be a great thing! "WIZARDS" Final compound at the "heaviest" grade or even the "Final" grade with a foam pad will probably take the dull glaze out. It IS buffed, just didn't see that it wasn't finalized! Looked good in the shop! :o Another hour or two with your 'to be' new polisher will do it wonders! (Keep me informed on spark plug wires -Aye?) DV Wheels??? Compound shouldn't touch the chrome at all! Hmmm? Chrome cleaner/polisher? |
Hey CaptEddie,
Many cheers for you, DV and the Queen. I hope to hear about some good times on the road soon. Don't sweat the small stuff, your looking good. I was stressing over some things with my Queen and my son said "Dad, nobody is gonna see that and think your car is a POS". He was right...as usual. John |

Sorry for the delay |
OK.... I think I hit on the way to get over all the problems that came with my Cobra build.....
My wife (she is WAY smarter than I am) said to me the other day.... "remember when you built your 3rd Harley and just wanted to finish and sell it?" and then said remember when we got married... " you should just sell your bike and be done with it" I said " if I get rid of my Harley.... I can't do that!!! I have a Harley tattoo... what would I do about that?" Long story, short... I still have my Harley and the tattoo that goes with it. Standby %/  :JEKYLHYDE |
Are you thinking of getting a tattoo? Listen to your wife but don't sell your Cobra man.

If I go to the point of getting something permanently inked on my body, then there is a very slim chance in hell I would ever get rid of whatever the tattoo stands for. :) So I still have my Harley and my HD tattoo and I guess this means I've committed myself to keeping the cobra and making the best of it  http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...New_tattoo.jpg |
Go for it Capteddie. I go a long way to avoid people who gain (in some way) from sticking sharp metal objects into my body:eek:.

WOW,
I'm impressed! DV |
CaptEddie,
You make it sound like your having to settle for something less than desireable. As far as I can tell your Cobra is to die for. The envy of us all. Embrace it and hold your chin up high. BTW-I'm not big on tattoo's but whatever floats your boat, go for it. John |
