Default Hello from New England

I wanted to thank all of the forum content providers and sponsors for such a great resource! I have been reading and learning from the site and it has been very helpful as I searched for my first Cobra. I settled on an SIA car and am now the owner of CSX4799. Once I get through the process of getting it through the MA government labyrinth I hope to have it out on the road.

Regards,
Bill

Getting the plates and registration was easy and the MA DMV was friendly and helpful, accepted a "non standard" VIN number and a fat sales tax check. However, the car then goes to a physical inspection and that has been an issue. After researching this site I knew I had to show up to an inspection station, fail the car and then head off to the MAC facility for a waiver. The car failed as expected but I can't get a waiver because the engine is currently being considered a late model "crate" engine and not a 1965 donor. My assigned MAC guy has been helpful but as of now, the car is an expensive piece of garage art. Will continue to work the issue and share anything I learn from the experience. I sure hope to get past this soon, I just want to enjoy the car.

If they gave you a reg and plates who made you go to mac? Didn't the reg say 65? I would of thought once you had reg and plates just go to local garage for sticker and be done?

I think your motor has a C5AE-H number on the side if that helps.

Bill I was looking at this car to.. But have to sell my old Shelby first. I am in Andover. From what I understand NH is easier to reg these cars in. Hope it's true.

mickmate, correct, that is the original FE designation. I am using this casting number to justify the emissions requirement for the vintage. The MAC is not recognizing this casting number, they are looking at the 2007 assembly date as the emissions compliance year. I am going to keep at it and hope to see you guys in person with the car on the road.

There is a Massachusetts program that allows you to put it on the road if you scrap a registered car 1973 or older. Don't know if it's the latest iteration of the program, but it's described here: LocostUSA.com • View topic - Massachusetts! ...anyone have a 73 or older MA vehicle?

If that is the case then anytime any engine is rebuilt in Mass. reguardless of the original block date. MAC can use the assembly/rebuild date as the assembly date It figures, Mass. is always trying to suck the life outa someone with extra taxes! . You might consider registering in N.H. or ME. via Cobra associates in those states. Mine is a antique w/no need of emission, inspection & total cost less than $80.00 per year As a AC Cobra cost less than $8K in 65/66, that is what you would pay for sales tax! Remember M8 you are now in a group of Cobra addicts & we help each other when ever possible.!

WELCOME TO THE ADDICTION THERE IS NO CURE

While I can't confirm, but I have heard some get thru if the manufacturer of crate motor sends a letter that the motor is an exact oem replacement of the original.
