Default Today is a good day…

They took my money and I have the receipt! I am the proud new owner of Superformance SP0#1457!
After dreaming about owning a Porsche and biding my time for the magical day, something weird happened. On an outing with my wife, we came across a Shelby Cobra. There are not many up here in Canada so seeing one is always a treat. I detoured for a better look and said “I want that”. My wife immediately said “you can have THAT”! That was the beginning of June. (Holy ****! Act quick before she changes her mind)! My homework began and on August 1st we were in Plymouth, Michigan, driving SP01457 and the love affair began. Luckily my wife is into it so I got me a threesome!
Now I just have to wait 4-6 long weeks for it to be delivered. Probably just in time for snow!
I’m looking forward to making some new friends and talking cars!!!

Wasn’t sure how to post a pic.

Close Glen. That one looks like it has blacked out roll hoop and quick jacks. Mine has a chrome hoop and the bumpers (for now). Paint looks the same though.

Congrats Jaws67, you will never regret any day you can spend with your 2-Loves Dance slowly with your newest love, as she can bite you in an instant. You'll know if you have brought the right car, if you have G.O.T.S. right before you turn out the light in the garage, you (G)lance (O)ver (T)he (S)houlder for one last look. Cheers Tom.

That is the one Glen! She’s a 10/10!
Tom, I’m already glancing over the shoulder and it isn’t even in the garage yet! And BTW… my wife and I were both bit within 5 minutes of each other. Thea’s how we knew the lemon snake was coming home with us.

So I thought there were huge restrictions on import especially age. Was the car already in Canada?

Congrats and I'm sure you've read all the tales about how squirelly a Cobra is. Be careful until you get the feel of the car down!

Congrats on the purchase. I'm also curious about the issues surrounding importing something like a Superformance into Canada. SPO1457 was originally built in 2003, so just under 20 years old and is titled as a 2003 Superformance.

The restrictions for import to Canada is that the car needs to be 15 years old or older. Most paperwork is lost after 15 years and without it there is no way the car is coming into Canada legally. I am dealing with Vanguard Motors in Plymouth and they are handling all of the import dealings with a broker. I just have to pay and clean out my garage. I don’t have the time or space to build one myself and Superformance seem to be a quality build and tend to hold their value. Fingers crossed.

Congratulations on your purchase! Except for the colour scheme, your Superformance is very similar to mine which I bought second-hand in the summer of 2009 and have been driving ever since.

I'm born and raised in the Toronto/Peel area and know Acton (our family dentist used to be in Georgetown and I used to pitch in tournaments at Glen Williams Park), but have lived in the nation's capital since coming here for university.

Fingers crossed you don't have any hiccups re: importing, registering and insuring your new dream car. Insurance can be tough in Ontario. If your regular home/auto insurer won't cover it, give Zehrs a call in New Hamburg.

As a new SPF owner I suggest you consider joining SCOF, the Superformance Cobra Owners Forum, to access all their great technical information and support from fellow owners.

Looking forward to you posting some stories and pics of your SPF Cobra.

Brian

Get the casting numbers on your block and Google is your friend at finding what engine you have. Quite a few 390's and 428's have been sold as 427SO in years past. I think Ol Shel even had to refund some money to buyers for selling 428's as 427so's.

Congrats and welcome. If you already have experience in high power to weight cars with few safety features (i.e., no antilock brakes, traction control or factory designed in understeer) you should adapt quickly. If these features are new to you, I encourage you to take it easy for a while. An inexperienced driver can put a Cobra out of control with abrupt throttle on or off, downshifting improperly, locking up the brakes, or exceeding the tires' grip in a turn. If you need to learn these skills I suggest a short high performance driving school, or find a sports car club that does autocross events. I hope your Cobra experience is as safe as it is fun.

Congratulations on your new toy and for having a great partner! I echo the cautions, but with a bit of good judgment you’ll be fine. Just keep in mind that you are the only safety feature of the car.
