Some quite serious curves to accomodate there Tom.
What else (pics) have you got for the car? I've got nothing to post on mine for awhile, so show me some pics

Cheers!
Glen

The other badge I have for the car is an oldie that belonged to my Grandpa....

It's an AA of SA (South Australia) badge that he would have been issued in 1928. I'll display it proudly

As a side note, my Grandpa had two cars in his lifetime - a 1928 Dodge and a 1951 Rover 75 (Cyclops), both purchased new.
The Rover he drove until 1983 when he surrendered his driver's license at age 92.

Cheers!

Appreciate that, Mr. D
Yeah, not a lot of traffic here on CC in general lately, and I feel guilty that not much (ie: nothing) has been happening on my build for several months but am definitely starting on the dash build in the next few days

Cheers,
Glen

Greetings.

Dash 'leathering' is underway. Will post pictures when I've got some decent progress to show.

Over the weekend, I made up a switch panel to fit in under and slightly behind the dropped centre of the dash panel.

Here's what it looks like....

I gave it the "engine-turned" look that I've seen on CSX2557's dash (as well as a couple of others). Gives it more of a vintage look.

So, there are four nice old "warbird" toggle switches to be fitted as well as a 2⅝" SW gauge.

Cheers!
Glen

Dash leathering....here it is removed from the car, and about to strip off the wooden supports that maintained its shape while working out the fitting and attachment.....

Got to take my word for it here....the leather has been adhered with contact adhesive in the area of the centre section, hidden by a heavy book

Cheers
Glen

I had to look at the "heavy book" twice.

I mistakenly thought the title read "Great Italian war heroes 1939-1945"

I need to get my eyes checked.

There is such a book?
Probably wouldn't be heavy enough for my purposes...

Progress....ditched the WWII book.

Here's the dash progress...

I approached the job with a little trepidation, but it's working out to be quite easy. The leather is really easy to work with, nicely soft and very pliable, yet very strong. I'm enjoying the job.

If anyboy's interested in doing similar, this thread was some help: Leather

...and I thought you (just) liked me because I have an Alfa

edit: his name just happens to be "Alfie", by the way (the dog, not the Alfa)

Progress on the dash...

Fitting the leather around the glovebox opening was a little intimidating to start with (never done it before ) but was really quite easy if approached methodically, and if not trying to progress it too quickly.

Here's the dash completed and doing a quick trial fit in the car....

The structural tube member running across the car is not actually going to worry me too much. It is far enough behind the dash to allow gauge clearance, but the glovebox will be a 'hybrid' shape, but it will work adequately.

Cheers,
Glen

Glen,

Looks nice. I like the way that you used every available thing in the house that could clamp, including the clothes pin laying on the table behind the glovebox Your desk must be cluttered with loose papers with all the binding clips being used. Is your wife wondering where all her clothes pins disappeared to?

Thanks Jim. Should buy some more vice-grips...but at the same time, the alligator clips sure do an adequate job.

With respect to the dash, I should mention my thanks to Jeff (1985 CCX) who years ago supplied me with an accurate paper template for a CSX 2xxx dash layout, and also to my good friend Tim (tkb289) who, with great accuracy, measured and photographed a local (CA) CSX2xxx dash for me. My steering shaft needed to be slightly further outboard than standard, but apart from that, it is as authentic as I can get it with the input from these two great sources. Many thanks gents!

Cheers!
Glen
